Does anyone have a good way of conducting the research sim? I can do it but it takes a long time, how long do most people take? Any tricks to doing it faster? Thanks.

For FAR, I practice searching for things within the FASB standards online. It is a searchable database in the new codification, and its almost exactly like the reseach sim in FAR. You can get a free academic/student subscription to view it.

For REG, I practiced finding major concepts online using the IRS searchable code website. Its very similiar to the research sim for REG.

The only way to get faster with these things is to have a really good understanding of how they are organized. And that comes with practice, and just clicking around and experimenting with it.

The Research database on AICPA's website gives canditate with a vaild NTS free access but it's a little difficult to use. While doing FAR in the 1st window of 2011 I realized that the database used for exam purposes is just as intuitive and easy to use as Google.

I like to use the “search within” button. Say you know you're looking for something in statement of cash flows –> you make sure that is selected in the menu on the left side, then you type what you're searching for in the search field and click “search within.” I find it helps to speed things up a bit.

I also use quotes in the search if I am looking for a specific phrase (“equity method” instead of equity method, so it only gives me results where the two words are together).

    Hope this helps!
