Quickly study for Far? Possible in 3 weeks?

    Howdy all,

I’ve got three weeks until my FAR date on October 13th. The 14th is the last day of my NTS so there is no rescheduling. Has anybody studied for FAR in this short a time period? I’m going to be able to study full time, but I’m just curious as to others out there who studied for FAR in a short time period. I usually go over all the MCQs 3 or 4 times but I’m guessing I simply won’t have enough time for FAR.

    Thanks in advance!

You had might as well just take it. If your NTS is expiring you can't get your money back, so whats the harm in trying? Study your a** off for three weeks and then just see what happens.

I would say don't waste your time on the lectures. Get the notes from the book if your taking Becker. Do the Hw problems as many times as possible and just learn through the explanations of any question you get wrong.

Oh I'm definitely taking it. I'm just looking for some free inspiration/advice I guess. Success stories welcome…I guess unsuccessful stories welcome too. 🙂

Smith, I think you can do it. You got good scores so far, and don't get psyched out by the FAR mystique. It may be in your sweet spot, so if you cover the lectures once, take notes, then review notes and do copious amounts of MC, you can pass. I don't know what your skills and strengths are, but if they are intact, you can do it. Push it!

Personally, I was rather surprised at the narrow scope of topics covered on my FAR exam in relation to the wide variety of topics that I studied using Becker. Information that I was SURE would show up while studying never actually did. Everyone's test is different, though. If I were to offer any significant advice (which is nearly impossible without violating disclosure rules), I would say focus your studies on the “most substantial” aspects of whatever review course you're using (for Becker, it was Gov't, Pensions, Consolidations, Bonds, Equity, Fixed Assets, IFRS, etc.) and generally ignore the “minutiae”. Pretty obvious advice, but that's about the best I can do. Wish you luck and happy studying (ha!).

i had my REG exam two months ago, then i should have studied for Far, but, after two months i am still in F2 (never touched F3 or farther, i am full time studying, very embarrassed by myself, SIGH!!). my NTS will expire on October 26th.

i lost motivation to study now, i don't know why… i don't know if i can make it, but if i am 100% sure that i am going to fail, I will not go for the exam because I prefer to take it this year later in November, if i take it in Oct. I have to wait until next year to retake as the rule specified that we can't take the same section twice in one testing window.

    let's see if i can make it….

    need some motivation……

Look at this post from Jeff.

It will be tough but you can do it if you study efficiently.

I think you can do it, I believe I gave myself 17 days to study for FAR (after watching all of the lectures, which I did in 5 days), so I guess a total of 22 days and I took 2 days off. I haven't received my score but I think I gave myself a decent shot at passing. Just hammer the multiple choice relentlessly and you'll have a good chance. I think audit is doable in 7-10 days if you go around 10-14 hours a day, that's what I did and I just received an 82….Then again, I may have been lucky. Good luck, you can do it!

    FAR (7/14/11) - 87
    AUD (7/25/11) - 82
    REG (8/8/11) - 77
    BEC (8/18/11) - 79

I studied 51 days for FAR so I spent a good deal of time on it.

    A few pieces of advice:

    1) Buy the Wiley book on amazon. Over 1,300 extra MCQ and 170 sims. I thought the sims on wiley were 1000% better than becker.

    2) Don't go over the questions anymore than 2x. Your mind will subconsciously remember the answer and it makes it useless to keep going over the same questions. Buy the wiley book and you will have many new fresh questions.

    3) Know the chapter you can go through quickly, F1, F8 and F9, and the chapter you will have to spend more time on, F2, F3, F5 and F6. So F4 and F7 are medium difficulty.

    4) Spend like six hours, and go through the whole book and write out all the journal entries and make sure to study them.

It will be tough to get through FAR in three weeks, but I think if you have the discipline and the focus you can give yourself a much better shot.

I think Jeff had posted an article a short while ago on how to pass in 20 days? If someone else out there can verify this (or Jeff), I have to run and don't have time to search the website right now for it, but it would probably be very beneficial if you want to pass in a such a short amount of time.

    Good luck!

I think it's definitely possible. I did the becker live classes at my college, then gave my self one week in between each exam. So far so good with BEC…hopefully the trend continues. The week of review leading up to each test, I woke up and studied, ate lunch, studied until dinner, studied after dinner and went to bed…rinse and repeat.
