I have been reading alot about the Pro-Advisor certification for Quick Books and how beneficial it can be as a CPA. Does anyone have any feedback on that topic? I know it is not related to the CPA Exam but perhaps I can get some insight anyway, please?

Hey Magster, I am not a CPA but became a QB proadvisor in 2009. I think there are a lot of benefits to being a Proadvisor. Do you a specific question or concern?

I am seriously considering becoming a QB ProAdvisor – not only will I learn QB better but it will help me in my career (I think). Plus I get the QB Enterprise which will come in handy since hubby just started a new biz. just did not know if it was worth it.

Are you wanting to do it to make some money?

I think so – eventually. Right now I am working full-time while studying for the CPA exams every free minute. I do have some opportunities to work with smaller firms on QB but not the time and had to pass it along to a CPA friend. Once the CPA testing nightmare is over and I have my life back I would like to get my foot in the door with some clients using the QB.

Just for the QB software alone it is worth it in my opinion, in addition the recognition and CPE. Currently working on QB Certification for 2010 as it will sunset on July 15th. I've used QB for about a decade now and already learned a lot of what I didn't know just going through the certification program. I would highly recommend it.

Magster, If you are looking to market yourself as a QB expert, I think there are better ways to go. I have been out there for 3 years now and have had 2 phone calls from that websight–and both were in the middle of tax season. Nobody gets free help during tax season!

What is worth it though, besides the software, is the technical support you get. In the proadvisor, I have never waited more than 30 seconds for someone to help me. Sometimes if I am lazy I wont even search for a resolution to the problem, I will just go right to the tec.

The best part of all, the bumper stick you get that says “I could answer your Quickbooks question if I weren't driving”. It is way cool!!!!!!

I'm really interested in being a quickbooks advisor and picking up some side work doing bookkeeping and taxes for small businesses. Has anyone else done bookkeeping on the side? How much do you charge, and how did you get clients?
