I work with 2 CPAs who got theirs in the old days. Yes, you had to initially take all 4 parts over a 2 day span which must have been grueling. But I think if you passed 2 sections then you got credit for them and only needed to take the remaining two next time. They both said the standard wait time for scores was 6 months.
I think it is difficult to say which method is worse. On one hand, the breadth of material is far greater today and the extra 30 credit hours required is another obstacle. Both of my co-workers said they would never want to be a CPA candidate today.
Just like everyone else, I am extremely disgusted with the recent scoring process. I find it amazing that in this day and age, it could take up to 3 months to receive your score, especially with an exam so important. As it has been pointed out before, there are careers on the line here. And just because it used to take 6 months should not mean that 3 months is acceptable.
If I worked for the AICPA, I would be embarassed for sure.
