WhyEvenTryParticipant– I have heard many say it before and completely agree. What makes you pass/fail FAR is your understanding of bond amortization and Govermental and NFP accounting. Also Inventory valuation a bit….
Really study the Gov and NFP, then restudy just those material 30 mins before your exam. The other stuff you will remember, but that stuff didn't seem to sink in. When I went with this process, I passed. Hope that helps 🙂

PrincesskimberParticipant@bammers2 – LOL. I didn't get FAR on Reg. I finished watching the dvds, read my notes and started working on MCQs. Then score release hell week began. I couldn't concentrate. Since 3/17 I haven't study. My test date is 4/30. I was so into it, now I to retrain my brain on Reg. ARRGGGG!!!!!!!! I am thinking of moving my test date back. My Wiley BEC score was indicative of the actual scores =-(.
Is there such a thing as too much studying for the CPA Exam?

– I'm sorry to say, but the your new gravatar suites you! I feel your pain to some degree. I have felt what a 74 feels like, and it's sux. but not two, especially in one window. I'm am soooo sorry. On the bright side…..at least you now know that you CAN pass and get it done. Come'on, only one point to go. That is a matter of your testing process (reading the qeustions, not running out of time, or…finishing with too much time, etc). Yoo got this!!!

MeganParticipantWhyEvenTry – Thanks!! I know Governmental and NFP will be a big section based on what I've seen on here. Luckily, it's mostly what I work with, so I've done well on each of those sections the past two times I've taken FAR. I probably would have blown it off though this time, so I will make sure to not do that.
You are preggers too! Or maybe your wife! Congrats!

LauraParticipant@whyeventry THANK YOU SO MUCH!! I just have to keep telling myself it is all worth it….I threatened my family just this morning…I told them all “I don't want to hear any crap about me not being around for Easter (which coincidentally is my birthday), I don't want to hear about how I am missing out on anything because I already know what I'm missing out on”. I'm tired of missing stuff…and for the next 8 weeks I am going to be MIA from life…in the end I can smile because I will lay the smack down on this exam and never miss anything else!

AnonymousInactive@keeptrying. That sounds like me and my family. My husband was like, “Well, we've been at this for 2 years now. What's a few more months?”

PassMeShootMeJustMakeItQuickParticipantReluctantly checked my score this morning and was very surprised to see I passed. And even more surprised to see an 85. I always thought because of my background BEC would be the easiest to pass for me, but once I started studying and seeing the type of stuff in it, I wasn't so sure. That being said, I kind of felt like the first testlet questions were pretty easy and the second and third were a little harder, but not extremely difficult. The only reason I thought they were somewhat difficult was because I didn't have the new material. I didn't think the written was too bad, but I am not a good writer, especially in timed, do-it-quick settings. I wrote some stuff, but they were fairly short answers, and I wasn't even sure what type of format to write.
Reasons why I shouldn't have passed:
1. First exam that I took, so even with Becker practice questions and exams, I didn't truly know what to expect.
2. I tried to get by with a friend's 2010 book because I figured it would be good enough. I did not realize until a week before the exam that they had taken out business structures and added corporate governance, and I thought there was only 1 longer written question instead of 3 shorter ones.
3. I didn't have any prep on corporate governance other than 30-45 minutes the morning of the exam when I Googled COSO and SOX, and reviewed some stuff on websites I found. Amazingly, I know for a fact at least one or two of the questions I got right because it was something that I read on the internet.
4. I'm not a good standardized test taker (my GMAT score 9 years ago was very average or maybe a little below average).
5. I only studied about 40-50 hours and very little the last week after thinking there was no hope once I found out the changes were more than I had thought they were.
I was comparable in corporate governance, information systems, operations management, and the written portion. I was stronger in economics, financial management, strategic planning, and multiple choice on a whole.
Now on to auditing, which is what I have been doing for the last three years (governmental and non-profit only). I think it will be harder for me though because of the memorization that is involved with it and without numbers, formulas, etc., the exam style doesn't suit me as well.
