ShlentineParticipantSince things are slow, I'll take the chance to thank all of you for the fun and support. Also, many thanks to Jeff! Your name comes up in our home often. Even my kids (we have 6) will ask if you have made any update announcements. This forum has made our CPA journey much more tolerable.

AnonymousInactiveAlso, in my opinion, I think it's best to study no more than 6 weeks (a month & some change) for each section. Last year both me and this guy that I met on cpanet were studying for REG and I put in 1 month of studying and he put in 2 months of INTENSE studying (his plan was waaaay more thorough than mine) and yet he scored a 78 and I scored a 79. We all know that comparing each other's version of the exam is like comparing apples to oranges, but wouldn't you kinda expect him to do MUCH better than me or at least somewhere in the 80's? I'm just saying that I think there's such a thing as too much studying.
Another thing, going into the prometric center for the first time after failing an exam is a nervewracking experience and you may not even be aware of the nerves and the lack of confidence you are feeling. This is what happened to me after failing AUD and then taking BEC as my next exam. I seriously had to take 1 or 2 minutes at the beginning of the exam to give myself a peptalk of ‘get it together, you can do this, focus'.

KCMO_PAParticipantBammers – I agree with the too much studying theory. There is just so much information that can be retained. What study materials have you been using? I have being using Yaeger. It worked for FAR but haven't had much luck with REG……
BEC - 75 (now expired....), 8/10
AUD - 86
FAR - 64, 74!, 82
REG - 67, 62, 5/10March 26, 2011 at 6:13 pm #278835

AnonymousInactive@curse, Congrats!!! I'll be back on Monday for BEC too. I've told myself that I'm allowed to fail each section one time only so I'm glad I got AUD the second time around!
@cpagreen, you're right I had been asleep until about an hour ago. I wish I could go out and celebrate but I'm still fighting a sore throat and now an awesome cough so I think it's best that I hang low until I'm feeling 100%.
Are there peeps still waiting for an AUD score from the ‘fast' NASBA states?
March 26, 2011 at 6:15 pm #278837
jc01ParticipantI thought I nailed AUD and I got a 66. I can't believe I wasn't even close. It's frusterating to not know what I got wrong since I am not sure how or what to restudy.
FAR - 79
REG - 75
AUD - 66, 96
BEC - 79March 26, 2011 at 6:26 pm #278838
Erica HParticipant@jc01- biggest thing on AUD is know the basics backwards and forward. Make up mnemonics and memorize all the audit standards, know which ones don't apply for reviews, what standards apply for comps. Know elements of internal control and elements of the control environment (more mnemonics) and know the wording of the standard audit report backwards and forwards. Have a good working knowledge of which situations require deviation from the standard report and *in which paragraphs*. Know which items merit a qualified report and which can be unqualified but just have different wording in the report.
Due to a timing fluke on my scheduling (thought I had a month left on my NTS but only had a week) I had ONE WEEK to study my arse off for my audit exam. I used a new Wiley book and some outdated Gleim audios and book I had from 2006. I did every 3rd MCQ for a chapter after doing the reading, only did extras when I got stuff wrong, and reviewed my mnemonics every day for 7 days. I thought I bombed it and I got a 92.
That proved to me without a doubt that memorization and knowing those basics backwards and forwards are the key to killing audit. I got into the exam, got into my first testlet, wrote down every single mnemonic on my notes sheet and the definitions and I literally referred to them on about 80% of my test questions.
AUD - 92
FAR - 73, 82
REG - 72, 82
BEC - 84 DONE!!!!!! 🙂March 26, 2011 at 6:27 pm #278839
AnonymousInactive@KCMO, I used Yaeger on all sections and supplemented Gleim MCQ software for BEC only. For Reg, I made flash cards but I didn't go overboard with them. I made one for Qualifying dependent (that's all I can think of off the top of my head). Anyway, after studying the module on individual taxes I felt like it was pretty straightforward in regards to qualifying relative tests, education IRAs or whatever, but 5 or so modules later you start to forget the details of the qualifying dependent etc. so that's where the flash cards come in handy. After studying a particular module, you may KNOW the subject matter, but 5 modules later, that knowledge starts to turn into ‘familiar' and we all know that you can't pass sections by being only ‘familiar' with things, you have to KNOW them. Also, as I have mentioned in previous posts, going back over previous modules MCQs 5 or say days after you learned that particular knowledge, really helps to keep all the module's material fresh in your mind.
I'll let ya'll in on a little secret and this may be overkill or not very efficient depending on the amount of time you have to study, but I have always gone through the MCQs and solved them (NEVER circle an answer, instead write your answer on a separate sheet of paper) and then gone through the book and underlined the answer in red pen and then gone back to the MCQ and put the page number in red ink out by the MCQ. If I can't find the answer in the text, then I'll go to the answer key and underline the explanation and then out by the MCQ, I'll say see answer. Anyway, after doing this you will be able to look through the text and see where the majority of the questions are coming from and that portion of the module becomes my ‘i must know this part or I will fail' parts. I didn't do this w/AUD the first time around because I was afraid I wouldn't get through my lectures in time and because there were sooooo many MCQs compared to other sections of the exam.

AnonymousInactiveI agree w/Spectrum. I made huge flash cards (4×6 maybe?) for comps, reviews, and reports and I wrote the standard wording for each and then I would list the elements of each and special characteristics.
Also for those of you using Yaeger and/or Wiley for REG, you know the module that talks about corps, individuals etc., well in order to create less confusion in my mind, I would write individual taxes or corps at the top of the pages in the text so that when I was reading this or that I could just look up at the top of the page to see if this related to corps, individuals or both. That way you aren't having to flip 3 pages before to see what part (individual etc) is being discussed. Hopefully that didn't confuse the heck out of ya'll.

Hate-the-processParticipantDoes anyone know if pass rates have been posted for the released exam sections?
