I know that NTS extentions have to be very rare, but has anyone actually had one? Or at least know how to request one? Do they even give any extentions at all??

I think that NTS extensions are rare. I scheduled an exam for Jan 1, 2010 because my NTS expired on January 2nd or 3rd. The prometric system allowed me to schedule it that date, and I received a confirmation e-mail. Around Thanksgiving the prometric center called me to say they would be closed January 1 and I would have to reschedule. I couldn't take it on the few days they had left in November so I called my NASBA state representative. I had to e-mail him the circumstances surrounding what happened. My NTS was extended until January 31st. So the answer is yes they can be extended, but I think it is not an easy thing to do. If you are in a NASBA state, I would contact your representative. Good luck!

Thank you… I have surgery next Thursday & my test is supposed to be the following Thursday… I know that between the actual surgery & recover time there is no way I can finish studying in time to be prepared by 1/27/11. Do you think that would be a good enough reason to have an NTS extention?

@Manderz, I just had my NTS extended 2 weeks ago. I was scheduled to take the exam January 7th my NTS was expiring January 8th. The 1st through the 5th I was having medical issues and visited the ER twice in those few days. I immediately called my board, Oklahoma, because I knew I was not getting my study time in and I was still not feeling good. I got a note from the ER doctor saying that I didn't need to take the exam for 2 weeks, she said that notes from the ER wouldn't do me any good I had to have one from my primary care doctor who had been treating me for the condition. I luckily got into my primary care doctor on January 6th and he wrote a note saying that it would not be good for me to take the exam before January 17th to give time for my medicine to kick in. I sent that to them and they extended my NTS to January 17th. You have to jump through lots of hoops and follow there rules and guidelines exactly, but it can be done. I would have your primary care doctor or the doctor that is providing you surgery type a note out saying that you don't need to take your exam until XXX for efficient recovery time. I would get the ball rolling quickly though, I had to pay money to cancel w/ prometric even though it was for a legitimate reason. So long answer it can be done, but call and ask specifically what you need to give them and in what format (I would have thought an ER doctor note would have been ok, but obviously not).
