Im the new kid on the block here. I got my MBA in finance a few years back and think getting a CPA will be a nice compliment not to mention the increased salary it brings. Anyway I sent in my application to sit for the CPA exam in California and was informed I’m deficient in accounting course by 8 units. I just signed up to take a couple online classes to make up for the deficiency.

After get my classes out of the way I plan to take one of the prep courses most likely Beckers – my job will cover it so not really concerned about price, I just want results. My timetable is to start taking the exams in the spring of 2012 with hopes to have it all complete by the end of 2012.

Im sure I will be using this site quite a bit once I start preparing for the exam. Let the journey begin!

Any words of wisdom that can be imparted on me with be greatly appreciated.

18 months goes by faster than you could ever imagine.

Try to take 2 sections in a testing window. Study for the first one and take it at the beginning, and the 2nd one at the end.

Start with your hardest subject first – before the 18 month clock starts ticking.

It may seem like an insurmountable amount of information but take it piece by piece. If you make a study schedule, make it realistic and stick to it. For example, don't even attempt to study if you are going to Vegas for your best friends bachelor party for an entire week.

Becker is great, but so are Yaeger and some others. There is overlap in them all but it all boils down to you and how much time and effort you put into it. Do the multiple choice questions until your eyes bleed.

Always rest the day before your exam; no cramming aloud. If you don't know it by then, you won't learn it the day before.

    Good luck!

CharlieSheenGoddess, from your experience, do you think this is an IQ test or a test of endurance? Can a person with a not stellar grade point average pass this test?
