NASBA Score Release to State Boards….4 weeks and counting

I received my final passing score 4 weeks ago today (6/27/18). This is after that sweet scoring hold and delayed release date they put on us for Q2. After waiting months for my score, it finally became available. Now I’ve been waiting for 4 weeks for them to release my score or the list of successful candidates to the state boards. Once my state board receives this information from NASBA, they send me the invitation to submit my final application/experience/etc.

I don’t know why I allow myself to be surprised at anything throughout this process. Still, I do. I simply can’t believe that it takes this long to provide scores to the state boards. This information has been made available to both the candidate gateways and CPA Central. This is in addition to the time elapsed between taking the exam and when scores become available to us. I’m just completely dumbfounded. I understand that the score holds slow things down. Nonetheless, I just don’t see any practical reason why it takes 4+ weeks (who knows how long it will actually end up taking) to provide the state boards with information that is readily available to the candidates. They sure know how to zap the joy right out of a major accomplishment…

You can probably find the CPA application and experience forms online.
Cut out the middle man and just apply now.

@Jay, what state are you in? I received my final score 4 weeks ago as well, and I applied for my license immediately. The Ohio Board just received my scores yesterday. I called twice to make sure that they did. Have you called?

I'm in Tennessee. It specifically says that you need to wait for the correspondence before applying. As you are going through the online portal, it asks if you've received it. You have to select yes or no. Then you have to answer that you promise that all of your answers are true and accurate, etc.

I’ve also called and spoken with them and they again confirmed that you have to wait until you receive it. I spoke with them today and they said that they’ve received only 6 “files” so far. When they receive your file from NASBA, they send you an email that same day with instructions and approval to apply. That’s where you upload your completed experience verification form, ethics course certificate, etc. I have it all filled out ready to submit. I’m just waiting on NASBA to send my “file” to the state board.

@Jay, lol. Ok, got it. It's interesting how different the process is for all the states.

Just an update. It's August 2nd, 2018 and still…….crickets. Yesterday was 5 weeks since my final score became available to me via CPA Central and the NASBA portal (6/27/18). Somehow, transmitting this information to my state board is takes weeks and weeks. All they have to do is provide my name and four numbers (grades). I just don't see how they justify 5+ weeks and counting. It sure does zap the joy out of receiving your final passing score…

Florida probably still hasn't received my “file” from NASBA, but they allow you to submit an application whenever you feel you are ready. They had the ability to login to NASBA and verify the scores directly before the last score was ever sent.

Seems unfair of Tennessee to just throw their hands up, especially when the license means bonuses, raises, new job opportunities to a lot of candidates.

    UPDATE:
So, I posted this at 8:29 am (central) and I received the e-mail from the State of Tennessee 67 minutes later (9:36 am central).

So a brief review in case it helps future Tennessee applicants.

Final Score Release: June 27, 2018 (Q2 2018 held all scores until this date and released them all at once).
Congratulatory Letter (from NASBA, not the state board): July 16, 2018 with letter dated July 12, 2018
Invitation to apply e-mail received from State of Tennessee: August 2, 2018

In case anyone from PA is reading this:

    Final Passing Scores Received: 6/27/18
    Congratulatory Letter: 7/22/18 dated 7/12/18.
Application (Submitted Online) to PA Board: 6/28/18 (you can do everything without the board having NASBA scores)

I submitted everything through email to the board:
Processing Time for Transcript: 2-3 days
Processing Time for Experience Forms: 2 weeks (one form); 2-5 days (second form)

I think my scores came in today, so that's a little over 5 weeks for score release.
