I know I am not going to pass REG tomorrow, my husband does not want me to play the postponing the test game anymore (haven’t tested in about a year because I keep postponing) and exam is tomorrow morning and I haven’t even covered all the material….and I don’t care anymore. At this point I just want to take the test tomorrow so I can move on to FAR which is next.

I always sit for the exam i've scheduled even if I don't feel 100% ready. I would rather take it and fail but get the experience of taking the test, than just keep postponing it.

Sometimes the experience of sitting in one position, in a room full of other people banging on their keyboards, for four hours…that can be alot to get used to. Also the anxiety of driving to the center, getting checked in, etc. can add to the stress. But the more times you do it, the less those things will bother you, and the more relaxed you will be for all your other exams.

So just get out there and do it!!! Its ok if you dont pass because you are still gaining knowledge about HOW to take the test, the format, and practicing the sims, etc. It's still a valuable experience even if you are not 100% prepared for the exam. Good luck!

Bummer. Don't know exactly what to say that will get you moving except: SNAP OUT OF IT!!!!! Get it going. This exam process is hell. So, why stay in hell longer than need be? I know I am looking for my ticket out asap! I am tired of keeping everyone waiting on the day that I finish. I want to finish today…..yesterday.

Take the exam tomorrow. Chalk it up as experience and hit FAR head on. Read your review book, take notes, take notes on your mcq's, study notecards, record yourself reading the book

these are all things I have heard people doing….but just do it. (I know that is so cliche…and so Nike) But pull yourself up by your bootstraps and start moving forward.

“If we all did the things that we are capable of, we would literally astound ourselves.” Thomas Edison

    Good luck.

    Over and out.

Thank you so much for your encouraging words! Tomorrow I will suck it up and face the music and just take the test….then move on and start out fresh with FAR. I have not tried recording myself while reading the book, that is a really good suggestion…thanks!

Don't think that's such a bad attitude- you're being realistic and you're taking the exam to avoid postponing. It's understandable to feel the way you do, at some point many people just run out of steam and feel listless about the whole thing. At least you're taking the exam and getting ready to study for FAR. The experience taking the test will prepare you for the other exams, and there's always a chance you'll pass this one.

That being said, you've got to just get these tests done and don't procrastinate. This is hard work and takes commitment, but you can do it if you put your mind to it. Everyone has his/her own personal struggles with the exam but has to figure out how to deal with it so s/he can pass.

Good luck on the exam tomorrow! You don't have to have covered ALL the material in order to pass – just 75% of the material that shows up on your exam 🙂

I have taken 3 sections of this exam without studying. It is a great experience to get a feel for what you will see when you are ready.

I've even been lucky enough to see some of the same sims. Go for it! All you have lost is 3 hours and some money.

You are all making me feel better about all of this, if it were up to me I would postpone…that is my big problem, postponing…such a bad habit to get into. I think the idea of just taking it to keep on track and to gain some experience is what I need. Thank you!

Pacific1 – I have to ask, do you really want to be a CPA? Maybe subconsciously you don't really want this, thus all the postponing. I think, to really pass this torture that the AICPA came up with, you have to really want it. I recently talked my friend out of taking it because she was stressing so much that she would just start sobbing for no reason! I come to find out, after a few rounds of blessed alcohol, that she was just doing it because her accountant friends were. She didn't even really care about becoming a CPA!

So now that I've experienced this ugly side of the exam, I make sure people really, really want to do this. Why ruin so many months perusing something you don't even really want? Just making sure you want to do this. If so, I will throw my support your way!

    Aud 4/2/11 - 86
    Far 5/27/11 - 83
    Bec 7/1/11 - 82
    Reg 8/13/11 - 86! It's over!!!!

If you read my post under the topic “For those who ever put off the CPA exam until further down in life…”, you'll see that I studied off and on 5 years without scheduling an exam. In January I set myself the goal of taking all 4 exams by the end of May and ended up sticking to it even when circumstances forced me to do so in one test window. Previously I'd blamed all the stuff going on in my life, but late last year I realized that my perfectionism had also been a big factor. I would have loved more time for the last 3 exams and probably would have done better on all of them if I'd had that time. However, I refused to reschedule because I knew I'd never feel ready. I was afraid of how long it would take for me to finish if I allowed myself the slightest wiggle room. I just kept telling myself that I could always retake the exam if I failed. You might be postponing the exam because you don't really care about being a CPA as exhaustedCPA suggested, or because you're a perfectionist, or for some other reason. After you recover from REG, spend some time thinking about why you keep postponing. Be honest with yourself even if you don't like the answer. Once you know the reason why, you can figure out how to work around it.

    AUD 4/15/11 - 85
    REG 4/29/11 - 80

I do really want to get my CPA. I think the set back happened back with the last test I took. I studied harder than I had in the past and felt really confident going in, when taking the test it just seemed I knew the answers and I walked out thinking I got this one! Well a couple months when scores were released I found out I didn't. I actually got the worst score that I had ever received before. For some reason when that happened I put up a mental wall about testing, but today I think I broke through it. I didn't do well but I broke the cycle I was in and I think that is worth a lot. I will take today off from studying and crack the books open tomorrow.
