SDPeedyMemberI find it funny that we all hear similar things! I don't need people fawning over me and what I'm doing, but when they act like what we're doing is no big deal and question all of our studying time, I definitely get annoyed!
This weekend I got a call from a friend, “Just calling to see what you're up to this weekend.” Ugh.

I don't know how to respond to that, should I be embarrassed, should I hang my head in shame…should I be thankful that you noticed how close I've been a multitude of times?

AnonymousInactive@mattsmeesh I would have responded, “If that's so, then what is Tax Law all about?” Of course, I didn't have to react at the exact moment (I should've said Jerk Store).

AnonymousInactiveI also want to second the annoyance of those who hear the “I'm sure you passed” comment. I suppose the intentions are usually good. But it really drive me nuts when it's in the context of “You can come to (insert stupid-ass event that you don't want to go to, regardless of studying) instead of studying, you're so smart I'm sure you'll pass”. Does the phrase “easy for you to say” ring a bell?

LauraParticipantFirst off, let me just tell you a little about me….I have been taking this exam since 2007. I'm married, have a son, and work full time. I would say some of those times i failed was a lack of motivation, time, and just plain exhaustion as well as taking care of a family while working 65+ hours a week. I have never worked in audit and it doesn't come naturally to me as you can tell Regulation obviously has/does. BEC has been the most difficult for me to pass, as you so dutifully noted I have failed it 7 times. I took for granted the first time I sat for that it would be an easy exam for me….it wasn't and still maintains to be extremely difficult for me.
I literally started this post off livid with you as fellow CPA candidate…now I”m just upset and in tears. Thank you for being so pointed and telling me you would never have me work for your company. I have worked in public accounting for a combination of 4 years and in industry for almost 4 years. I have had increasing responsibilities as well as salary increases and bonuses because I am a great employee. It would be your loss not to hire someone that has perseverance and dedication.
Also as a side note, I supported my husband through his undergrad and grad degrees; as well as him passing the CPA exam before he started working full time; during this the time I was studying and working full time. I can't explain to you how hard it is to fail repeatedly while your husband passes the exam on the first try for each section. I don't wish failure on anyone, but I do hope that you can have a little more compassion for your fellow CPA candidates.

MinimortyParticipant@keeptrying – I would hire you in a heart beat. I have two little ones at home and work full time as well. Only people in similar circumstances could really understand how difficult it is to maintain all three (family, work, studying) at a high level. I have nothing but respect for you and I have full confidence that you will get this thing done. It will happen when it happens. Don't let anyone get you down.
@khachik2003 – I would never hire someone like you to work for me. You seem like a negative person and your attitude would not be welcomed among my other employees.

AnonymousInactiveYeah, I don't know how all of you who have kids and/or spouse plus full time work do it. I did it during the completion of my MAcc while teaching 2 sections of an intro acc class at the sophomore level and I still think you guys are superheroes. Props to the married/child rearing candidates; mucho respeto.

kb24ParticipantDon't let the doubters get you down. You've been a huge inspiration to many people on this site for your perseverance and supportive attitude. I've been hanging around waiting to see how you and some of the others that I got to know in the spring have done this test window. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you.

yankeeaccountantParticipantAs far as I know, there is no race to the finish. Of course, we would all love to have this journey be as short as possible! But we are all learn differently, test differently, and have completely different, unique lives–so by that fact– each journey is different for each person.
Here is a line from a song “….. Don't be a horserace…Be a marathon…” (By Michael Franti, “never too late” I love this song, it is such a feel good song— take a second to listen to it, it is fabulous!)
In the end, nobody cares how long it took to be a CPA ! Keep the faith. You will get there!!!

LauraParticipantThanks everyone for the encouraging words, I didn't lose my motivation today. Rather someone made me feel like a complete failure and I just let him know how I felt and where I've come from to get to the point I'm currently at.

AnonymousInactiveKeeptrying and I have been in this game for a long time. It makes the hair on the back of my neck stand up when I see posts that are unsupportive of those of us who refuse to give up. Everyone has their own story on this forum and we are here for support.
I've seen people on here who are war vets, homeless, helpless, etc. We have one thing in common and that is to pass the CPA exam.
Keeptrying held my hand for many score releases and I have her back.
I'm getting very irritable with the impending score release, so from now on I will not hesitate to use my Moderator powers to abolish those who pi$$ me off, khachik2003

I have to post just to say that your dedication and determination is amazing!! I know for a fact that I would've thrown in the towel long ago if I was in your shoes. You will pass one day, and it will be that much more special for all you've been through. You are an inspiration…I wish you the best of luck!! 😀
