    @85CPA

I can definitely relate. I don't like it when people just assume I'll pass because I've spent a lot of time studying or give an impression of being a good student, I feel like saying, “don't belittle the achievement of passing! It's major!” And then, when I did pass last window, I felt like they were saying, “see, I knew you would pass” – well, I didn't know! It could have gone either way! Those of us studying for the CPA exams, or even other exams, all know that!

When I'm apprehensive I won't pass, I want their sympathy/empathy, not support that says “don't worry, you'll pass, you always do well” because I feel like saying, “how do you know? if you never studied for it and taken the exam, you can't know the magnitude of this.”

Of course I appreciate they're support, but somehow my friends who took/are taking the CPA exams or other exams (Bar, etc) seem to be a little more understanding.

Some people told me the CPA is harder than the Bar, and that the CPA passing rates are lower. I don't think I checked it out for myself, so could be not 100% true nowadays.

    “You're smart, you will pass”

“With as much time as you've put in this, you have to pass”

“Do this or that, and study later” (Or anything about adjusting my study schedule to meet their schedule. Most annoying phrase for me)

“It's not that hard I can pass if I wanted”

Heard that a few times, I want to say ‘I dare you, I double dare you mofo to pass it then!”

I would also like a t-shirt that says “warning: discussing how tired YOU are within earshot of me could be hazardous to your health” I do not go to work and discuss how my studying, kids, and classes wipe me out. They are all by my own choice and if I couldn't handle it I would stop. So please don't bore me to tears listening to how you had to get 2 kids to 2 soccer games on opposite sides of town. That's a slow day for me!

@mla – I'm so with you!! I have a co-worker how always complains about having to make sure she has someone watching her kids. 1.) She only works part-time, 2.) She doesn't even have to work cause her husband has a good job, 3.) She's always changing her work schedule so she doesn't have to pay for daycare.

Don't complain to me, I have both kids in daycare, drive 45 minutes each way to work, my husband works 1 1/2 hours away in the total opposite direction, so during the week I'm pretty much on my own, making dinner, getting lunches ready, etc. She has her mom making her dinners.

She even complains about “all the stuff she has to get done”. I want to say to her “live my life for a day and see how far you'll make it.”

Started sitting in May 2002, on and off. But since 2008 I've been nonstop and my scores are....
    AUD - 39, 48, 56, 65, 68, 73, 76!!! (Finally passed in Oct 2011!!!) Becker, NINJA, & Wiley
    REG - 75 (Lost Credit) 72, 68, 73, 75 (Passed again in Aug 2011) Becker, NINJA, & Wiley
    FAR - 65, 68, 75 (Lost Credit) 68, 73, 73, 80 (Passed again in May 2012) Roger, NINJA, & Wiley
    BEC - 65, 68, 71, 72, 72, 71, 76 (Lost Credit)- 70, 76!!!! I AM DONE!!! - Roger, NINJA, & Wiley
After 10 long years of studying, I AM DONE!!!! Finally a Licensed CPA in the State of New York!!

I was told yesterday “I am surprised your not passing these exams, I never thought being a CPA was a hard thing to do. The lady at H&R block that did my taxes was an idiot. How hard can this possibly be?” I was furious considering I took time out of my studying to go to a labor day party against my better judgement and all day was hearing how I must be stupid for not passing yet.

    Haha!!

This thread is cracking me up. It's good to know I'm not alone. I do everything in my power not to be rude when faced with these comments. Like the one time when I was two weeks out from my REG exam and my SIL told me she totally knows how I feel. Since she felt the same way when she took the real-estate exam. That one was hard to swallow.

The mere sound of my husbands voice drove me crazy and the fact that he wanted to do some upgrades to our house while i was studying drove me crazy!! My focus was to keep the REG information from seaping out of my brain!! Let alone, now you want me to pick out paint. You must have lost your mind.

    BEC: 75 11/8/10
    AUD: 89 2/22/11
    FAR: 78 5/17/11

    a day later

“have you gotten your score yet?”

“no man, it's still a good month away”

    a week later

“have you gotten your score yet?”

    “…”

“you're studying too much, you need to give yourself a break” << What my father says when I call to check up on him. My thought—I'll be studying for f******* ever if I give myself breaks!

“the books will always be there tomorrow” << What my friends say. My thought–Idiots.

I think I'm in a bad mood today, lol

Them: “I'm sure that you passed.”

Me: “We'll see… I have failed this test twice already.”

    Them: “….Oh…”

That usually shuts them up for at least a week. 🙂

my personal favorite is “so did you find out yet whether you passed?”…..my first thought “yep keeping it from you just to get you to ask me that every two days”.

Another favorite is, “You can always take it again.” really…really…because that's exactly what I want to do….

    REG-80, 77, 77
    BEC-67, 68, 71, 67, 71, 74, 71, 74, 72, 77
FAR- 72, 65,67, 53, 75 (truth be known the 53 was with 4 hours of studying)
    AUD-58, 62, 72, 74, 74, 75
took 5 years but I'm DONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

when studying for FAR: “When are you taking your test again? What? You put it off again?!!?”

“The CPA exam is open book, isn't it? It's all about doing taxes, isn't it?”

    done
