I have an interview tomorrow with a CPA firm I met through my bank teller position at the bank. He posted on Craigslist his requirements for the job and since I don’t have experience I was wondering how long it would take to learn

    Corp/Partnership tax returns

    Estate/Trust tax returns

I think the tax return thing isn’t a big deal unless his customers all extended there deadlines to Oct 15th.

and then Accounting software experience required? What kind of software does he mean? How long would it take for me to learn those software?

The software is the easy part of working in tax–the tax is the hard part. Assuming you're at least somewhat technologically inclined (which some people aren't, but I think most CPAs and CPA candidates are), you won't have a problem with that.

Hard to say what exactly he means by accounting software, though…maybe you should ask him for clarification. He could mean Quickbooks, Peachtree, SAP, etc., or he could mean something like GoTax, Profx–suffice to say that there are a LOT of software programs all designed for people with varying degrees of accounting skill and experiences, but thankfully our society is pretty demanding about user-friendly products.

I worked as a bank teller once as well–an accounting software is really no harder to learn how to use than the software they use at banks. In fact, the computer system at the bank might have been more complicated!

Thanks, Its a really small firm and he seems really interested but its the requirements of the job, I don't know how rigid they are to adhere to them. They only want an associates degree for some reason, but the job description makes it sound like something more advanced. I think I could work the angle of “if you employ me, you will have a CPA on staff in 1 year” kind of thing

Sounds like a good place to start–the only problem with them only wanting an associate's degree is maybe they only want to pay at associate's degree levels. Either way, experience is vital in the long run. Good luck!
