Is waiting for your first ever score worse than waiting for the others?

I will receive the score for my first exam this week. I don’t know why but I feel like this score has the power to make me feel like “yes, you can totally do this!!” or “ugh this is going to be a long, grueling, tiresome process.” Of course I will keep going either way, but the anticipation is killing me!

Does anyone remember how their first score made them feel and how they dealt with the nervousness waiting?

    REG - 86 (11/22/11)
    BEC - 88 (1/9/12)
    FAR - 79 (2/29/12)
    AUD - 71 (5/7/12) - Got a little lazy. Retake 7/30/12 - 85 on the retake woohoo!

Waiting for your last score is by far the worst, but the nervous excitement of your first score can't be matched!

    FAR- 77
    AUD -49, 71, 84
    REG -56,75!
    BEC -75

I imagine waiting for the last one must be pretty intense. I think I will cry the day I get my final passing score. And I say this already having only just started, so I can't imagine! haha

Yeah, the last score was definitely the worst. I could barely sleep for a week or two before score release. I had so many nightmares… And when I finally got my score, I cried off and on for a few days. It was overwhelming!

The first passing score was great though. It was like… holy crap, maybe I AM smart enough to pass this!

I remember my first passing score was FAR and I randomly ran out of my bedroom, jumped over the coffee table and collapsed on the couch. I literally lied in the same spot, face buried in the couch for about 5 minutes while my wife was freaking out because she didn't know I'd passed due to my instantaneous running out of the room. I was very fortunate to pass the first exam I took and the wait was killer. BUT, that first passing score is one of the best feelings you'll have. I'm waiting for my final score right now and could be done in 24 hours, but that first score was something special. I may think differently tomorrow though!

It's going to be a long grueling process in either case, but a passing score on your first try will definitely give you the “yes I can do it!!” mindset. Right after college, I jumped into REG. Studied my ass off, felt really good about it. The waiting didn't bother me because I knew I had passed. Then I see that 74. Worst feeling ever. All that time wasted on studying and it wasn't even good enough to pass… felt like crap. I figured if I couldn't pass REG with all that time I had invested into it, there's no way I'm passing the rest. So I took a year off before starting the process again. Needless to say, I realized that REG was one of the harder ones (IMO the hardest) to pass.

PS. Once you start, don't take a long break in between. Just go full throttle and finish it.

    BEC - 67, 79 - (expires 5/24)
    REG - 74, 72, 77 - Key to Passing: RTFQ
FAR - 77 - Chance favors the prepared mind.
    AUD - 64, (5/14) - FREEDOM!! (i hope)

I'd say the third was the crappiest for me, because if i failed that one, my life for the next 8 months would be very, very undesirable. now i have 1 test to take and 3 chances to pass. i like my chances. but waiting for FAR, while thinking a failed, while thinking that my life will suck for the next 8 months, that was unpleasant.

Wow reading everyone's posts I can relate to everyone!

Sadly, my first 4 were fails. When I sat for FAR again, I felt I had done so poorly that I had given up at that point. When I checked my score, my 9 year old came in the room, I asked him to give me some privacy so he walked out. I clicked the button and low and behold a 75! My words “Oh s***!” My son ran in and I said, “Go get dad!” When I heard them both running down the stairs I heard my husband say, “was it a good oh s*** or a bad oh s***?!” It was bitter sweet at that moment. When I was finally ok with giving up I realized I was just starting. šŸ™‚

Now, waiting for the last one I feel I did as poorly as I did on the first. I just hope for that 75!

@ Hut-Hut What did you use for BEC? And what is RTFQ?

    FAR- 63, 75
    AUD- 61, 78
    REG- 63, 74, 80
    BEC - 63, 61, 75!!!!! I'm done!!!!

Definitely the first and the last ones make me tense-up, especially when your friends got their passing scores before you do. I would say friends who brag about their scores make me feel more intensed, but I understand they will brag not matter what anyway…the annoying part is some of them like to compare scores which in the real world, a 75 is passing, a 99 is passing. 99 does not mean you are smarter, maybe luckier. It is crazy how people like to make themselves so much better than others.

First one was definitely the most exciting for me. The last one I think will be a close second.

@ToCPA: People will get excited about their passing scores and celebrate (no doubt about that, they deserve it), but the ones who shove their 95s in your face, that's just immature. 75 = 99 (even though a 99 is pretty impressive, there's still no difference whatsoever, passing is passing)

@SwanCPA: I used Becker. Nothing else. (although I passed before the essays were included, but Becker is still good). I just read the book more carefully, took notes, and completed all the MCQ. And of course, RTFQ = read the f***ing question (which applies to all sections). That's my main flaw with these things. Halfway into the question, I assume I know what they're going to ask and don't bother reading the question. Good luck! One more to go. You got this! and lol to the “was it a good oh s*** or a bad oh s***?!” haha couldn't stop laughing

the last score or scores is the worst, I agree with kandisjoy that I could hardly sleep now it is terrible. Now I just want to know if I pass or fail, I just want to know so I can get my sleep back šŸ™

btw, audit was the first one that I took and I failed by 1 point, it definitely gave me the feeling of “this is gonna be a loooooooong process.”

EVERY score release is a terrible emotional roller coaster/want to commit suicide/why am I doing this anyway/I want my life back/ type of deal…

    AUD 81 (X4) Previous scores 59, 72, 72
    REG 80 (X3) Previous scores 59, 60
    FAR 75 (X2) Previous score 67
    BEC 79 (X2) Previous score 58

Maybe I'll have to pull out my old Becker BEC books.

    Thanks!

My first test was my 81 in FAR and it really pumped me up considering how everyone on here called it the BEAST! I was actually waiting for FAR & BEC in the last quarter due to the new release schedule. I was nervous about BEC because I was in the 3rd wave and everyone said it was borderline scores. I was so excited that I went 2 for 2 on my first 2 exams. I'm hoping to be 3 for 3 in the next few days with my REG score.
