I’m starting REG 1 for Becker and im trying to finish up the questions and i noticed that im having a HARD time answering these questions about indiv. taxation and all the different types of rules my first time around. Did anyone else struggle with REG 1 the first time?

You are not alone. I did too. I think I was in the 60-70 range on those. But I actually did worse when I got to the Blaw sections…….close to 40%. I start my Yaeger cram review on Monday so I am hoping that Phil can straighten out whatever mess I got in my head . I felt like Becker's lectures made sense, but then when I got to the questions, they didn't seem to be what we had just gone over. It could be just me, summer, and wanting to be done with this whole deal, I don't know. I actually ended up just reading R7 instead of listening to the lecture. I guess I remember more of those silly comments Pter makes about SL 450 Mercedes, etc than do about everything else.

Best of luck…hang in there, it will get better!

I feel the same way. I'm studying for REG now. But as I keep going over the topics again and again and doing questions, I find myself starting to get the hang of things. Granted, I'm still not prepared to take the test yet, but I should be ready by my exam date, which is 8/30. I find that with more time and practice, my studying starts coming along a lot smoother, which seems to be a good sign.

That is good Cpaman. I am hoping to get there myself. I sit on July 31, so right now I am looking at alot of long days and alot of rinse and repeat! I am hoping it will start to seep in. I actually was surprised because I thought the tax portion was going to be harder to keep straight in my head, but it is all the other stuff that is giving me problems.

Best of luck to you. bTW nice score on FAR!!

@CPAer….You're defiantly not alone!! I got it straightened out in my head after I made my own notes.

    BEC: 75 11/8/10
    AUD: 89 2/22/11
    FAR: 78 5/17/11
    REG: 72, 83 10/17/11
    DONE!!!!

    @whenindoubt, @yankeeaccountant @CPAMan

Things are a becoming a lot clearer and brighter after solving questions about Like-kind exchanges. The gift portion on the stocks and eventual sale of them are a bit unclear to me but, i'm sure i'll understand once i re-read and solve more MCQs.

I think the “secret” is solving tons of MCQs and learning from the ones you got wrong. I find it more effective to continually solve computational question than reading about them.

Surprise after surprise… R2 is now more difficult than R1 hahaha.

Did you all memorize the phase out methods for each adjustment and itemized deductions?

@CPAer- That's the hardest part. Over the weekend, I plan on typing up a nice handout for myself that shows me all the stuff I need to memorize. What are deductions to arrive @ AGI? What are the Itemized Deductions? What are the Misc Itemized Deductions subject and not subject to the 2% floor? And what are any phasouts and AGI limits that I need to be aware of? Rather than scrambling through my notes and books to find each of them, I'm going to outline every one of them in a nice handout this weekend and I'm taking it everywhere I go. I'm going to know all this stuff even if it kills me. I passed two parts. No way am I stopping now!!

I need to read this thread over and over!! Of course I don't possess any of that go get 'em attitude that you have CPAMan. I wish I did. I am halfway done and only need to pass REG and AUD. I sit 7/30 for REG and 8/30 for Audit. I can't wait for this to be done. It is really hard to study in the summer. I really don't have any excuses since I am not working full time. I recently started to do work for a prior client but nothing that would be getting in the way of studying. I am just not motivated. I really should be because this whole exam process has been such a gnarly point of contention in my house. My husband supports me but this has put a strain on things to say the least. So, I should totally be motivated to get this thing done. But, can't seem to get the juices flowing.

I hope your enthusiasm catches on to me sooon.

    Best of luck!

@CPAMan i noticed that you're taking the exam on 8/30? I'm taking mine on 8/29 but i'm on REG 2…while it seems as if you are reviewing your material. When did you start studying for REG?

I started studying the day after I took AUD, which was 5/29. Almost 2 months have passed and I don't feel ready at all because there too much to memorize. That's why I'm going to outline everything for myself. It's about time I start remembering this stuff.

Impressive! Although, i feel nervous now because my 49 days of time dedicated to REG is not near your 3 months of REG. If you feel don't feel ready..i don't know if i ever will.

I'm trying to pull this off with 3 1/2 weeks of studying, but I'm not working right now. Is it just me or does it seem like there is WAY more Biz Law material than will actually be on the exam (for becker)? I am trying to just cover it all once so I am familiar with it but I am not sure whether knowing every detail will be all that beneficial like it will for tax. Anybody else have a take on that material? I'm hoping the questions will be more basic.

    B - 85 (5/31/11)
    A - 93 (7/1/11)
    R - 87 (7/29/11)
    F - 77 (8/31/11)

    whyme23,

I agree..it does seem that way. I am using the Yaeger cram (already finished Becker) and it looks like they spend a decent amount of time on blaw.

I am studying full time as well. Although, I am at my 2 week review stage, I am not doing very well. I am just not consistent at putting in quality hours. I am very distracted. I wish I could get it together. Summer is tough for studying. Kids are home, the yard keeps calling me, the list goes on!!

I sit on July 30…when do you sit? Are you reveiwing? If so, how are you going about the review?

    Best of luck to you!
