Is another 74 a thing? How to study when this happens.

After months of studying on and off I took far on 12/7/17. This morning I woke up to a big fat 74. I was truly demoralized. I’m already starting to make plans on how I’m going to keep studying so I can hopefully pass next time around. The thing is I’m not sure what I should do.

The way I studied for FAR was like this….
I watched all of the lectures in Roger. Every now and again I would do some multiple choice and I never did any TBS question until a week before the exam. I actually didn’t even finish the material until 5 days before the exam. All in all I’ve also done less than 10% of the multiple choice. Should I just hammer those multiple choice questions or should I go back and rewatch the lectures I know I need help with. I want to pass so badly.

This actually makes me feel like shit-I did two testbanks-probably twice and ended up with a 69:) and did all of TBS in Becker. I would say go back and do all the MCQ.

Watching the lectures without doing the MCQ's doesn't give you a chance to work the problems.
Rewatching the lectures is a waste of time. Work the MCQ's and then if you are doing consistently terrible on a topic, then revisit the book and video.

I too woke up to another 74….I am beginning to take this personally. I am using Wiley and have archived all previous work and will be starting fresh, working every diagnostic assessment, every section quiz, and every post assessment in order, without review ing the material. From here, I will begin attacking with MCQs and TBS's from my worst section to best. After this, I will begin doing 33 question testlets of MCQs until I have mastered the exam. I have basically decided that sliding by and using trending scores is no longer an option. I am going to systematically destroy FAR. I was really hoping to avoid this as most of this knowledge will be forgotten in so short a time after I finish the exams, but desperate times call for desperate measures.

Well I was fortunate enough to see a 1pt improvement in my performance to a 74…
Seriously the numbers are just to piss ppl off. This should be pass/fail since you're supposed to get a new test every attempt.

I am in the 74 club as well. My current FAR scores are now 72, 70, 73, 74. I have studied this material like crazy for years it seems. I am right there with you. I also wish I had some advice for you, but it seems that I need some myself.

Good luck to you, keep working hard.

    I got a 74 when I took FAR in September 2017…

I took it again 2 months later and just got a 76.

    How?

    Sims. Sims. Sims.

Don’t do another MCQ. Sims from here on. Hit consolidations, cash flows, equity and government/non-profit. Do them until you hate life.

Also, remember that about 20% of the test could be government and non-profit… this was my strongest section. Hit this part hard.

@ Will-I am sure that my abysmal 69 was due to government accounting. I am going to restudy that section like crazy if my life depends on it. How did you study SIMS? I did them all and redid them in Becker, what review course did you use?

@Erick – the IPQs are key, I think more important than watching the lectures.

My attack when using roger was to watch lectures, then do the IPQs for each chapter in their entirety. Sometimes I would bundle a few sections of lectures and then jam a few sections of IPQs, but I never took an exam until I had done ALL of the IPQs, including sims.

1/2 of your score are SIMs in FAR, to not touch them at all until last week I think held you back a bit. Same with only doing a fraction of the MCQ IPQs.

The best thing I did was follow Roger's study guides like they were gospel. I selected the 12 month study planner, and damn near to the day I passed all 4 in 12 months.

Something else I did….as I did the IPQs I had a word doc open on my second screen. For each MCQ or SIM I missed, I would take notes on what the right answer was.

About a week before my test date I started reviewing that word doc, printed it at the office and took it with me wherever i went. I would read it 5 minutes here, 30 mins there. I had some sections where i had 30, 40 pages of word doc to review. But I am confident I passed several more MCQs per exam than I would have had I not done this. Same with some SIMs, the notes I took on the concepts I missed originally on my practice tests were clarified before I went in for the real deal.

    Good luck to you.
