    I did it!!!!I I passed! Woot! 83 on REG…

That really blows my mind, and understanding how the AICPA gets to its grades will forever be a mystery to me. I am not a one of those people that walks out of an exam and complains about failing and then gets a 98%…..Its a matter of whether or not I knew the information, and the fact of the matter is…….I’ve said here in these forums, I knew the multiple choice, I flagged 4-5 questions a testlet, and when i got to the sims…..only 2 of them were on a topic i understand. 2!!! The same thing happened to me with the old FAR format……so if i have any advice…..its master master master the mcq’s……do everything you can to tackle them. Put some time in on SIMS during final review, but when you get to the test just destroy those multiple choice questions.

Sigh. I’m done. I’ve passed four parts and i’m finally done. I don’t want to keep tooting my own horn because some people didn’t pass, and I will stick around on these forums trying to be help. (instead of just cracking jokes…:) )

I really do want to help. I’m married, working full time, no kids (god bless those of you that do), and I used Becker for all parts. I started studying in 2009.

Wow! Congrats! That's a great accomplishment!

I'm also married with no kids (want to soon, but need to get this beast out of the way).

I'm curious to know… how long did you study for REG? I studied about 8 weeks and did so many MCQ's, my head was spinning. I was in the same boat as you with MCQ's… about 4-5 per testlet, but I think the key is getting them right! A few I guessed on and I must have missed a few.

Did you pass them all the first time through?

@joey J……thank you! You guys are all really great. I wish everybody the best of luck.

@bchaison I studied for REG for 6 1/2 Weeks. I am not great at being consistent with my time (i,e, 2 hours a day)….so instead I made goals…..I wanted to finish all my Becker lectures and give myself 1 Week to review. Becker, I believe, recommends 2 Weeks, and with a hectic schedule, I wouldn't disagree with them. However, I had the freedom to have 4 days of no work before the exam, which gave me 8 hours a day to study for 4 days.

Another big piece of advice I can give is write things down!!!!! I open my becker book and I go through and anything I think I need to know, I write it down. When i get a MCQ wrong, I write down the concept I missed. You've got to do something to plant stuff into your head. By the time I took the test…..I had taken around 10 sets of 100 questions. If i'm not passing those, i won;t pass the test.

I did pass the exams the first time through, and I feel blessed that everything came together to allow me to study well.

    @gottagetmycpa

AUD – I found Becker to be excellent.

FAR – I struggled here, and also, i took FAR under the old format. However, I believe BECKER does a great job on FAR as well.

REG – I will not blame Becker for not preparing me here, but i can confidently say Becker does not perform here well.

So…my advice…..Simulations are all about Conceptual knowledge of materials…..knowing why a MCQ is correct is vitally important. Dont memorize MCQ questions in your study materials….know why they are right, read all the wrong answers and why they are wrong. Truly understand the concept. I do toooons of MCQ and try to expose myself to as many as possible. What does this have to do with Simulations, well, I think MCQ are the best thing that will prepare you for simulations. my formula……..MCQ

You may now address me as —

    Virginia Certified Public Accountant!

Looking through my CPA file — The first doc is a reigistration for “Principles of Accounting I” 2005 Fall Term, Northern Virginia Community College. 6 long years. And the kids are still speaking to me and my spouse hasn't left me, after many repetitions of:

“What's for dinner?” “I'm studying. Order Chinese.”

Mom, I need (fill in the blank)_______ for school.” “I'm studying. Ask your Dad.”

“Honey, do you want to go see a movie?” “Not now. I'm studying.”

Mom, I'm hungry.” “I'm studying. Go forage.”

“It's 1:00 a.m. How much later are you going to be up?” “I don't know. I'm studying.”

So now my spouse asks, “Is there a graduation ceremony or something?” Naw, just an email from the Virginia Board of Accountancy Licensure Examiner. That's good enough for me.
