For those of you that have used the IL Board of Examiners.. I’ve got a question. Why is website ilboA.org instead of ilboE.org ?

What is the “A” suppose to stand for? Examiners only begins with an “E” correct? Did someone drop the ball on that webaddress..

Then when you log on to see your scores it says “IBOE” on the bottom.. ?? but web address and email address is ilboA.org… weird.

I've wondered that as well. I have a feeling it was supposed to be something like Illinois Board of Accountancy or something like that. I also fins it hilarious that it's in Champaign and is affiliated with U of I – one of the best engineering schools in the country with some of the best computer people in the country – and their website looks like it was designed in 1998. I know they updated it recently, but even the update looks old. But I guess it's good to know our money isn't being wasted on websites…

Just came across these posts. And although a year old, thought I would comment. In 2001 legislation was passed that the Board of Examiners would take over licensing, CPE and enforcement now handled by the folks in Springfield. One day before the change was to take place in 2004, the Governor (who is now in jail btw) signed legislation to have licensing, etc stay in Springfield. In preparation for the anticipated change, we secured domain names that would have reflected our expanded responsibilities – Illinois Board of Accountancy – hence iboa. We just kept that domain name instead of purchasing iboE.

We do not receive web development support from the University. We are a State Agency located in Champaign. Even if we did get web design support from campus, the College of Engineering would not be the unit to assist outside units with their web development. I'm sorry you find the site archaic. Please send specific suggestions as to how to improve it: help@ilboa.org

I just noticed this after being on the site dozens of time for my CPA experience.

@Chigrl10 U of I is also THE BEST undergrad accounting school in the country. I believe that is why IBOE is there.

Maybe it was called Illinois Board of Accountancy before? That's where ILBOA came from? Probably named it before to be consistent with other states who call them “board of accountancy”

Just speculating. Not sure if it is true.
