After so many hours studying formulas and calculations, you get like 1 question per area. One! If I fail, and I have no idea how I did, I will focus primarily on concepts. I was asked 6 or 7 concepts that weren’t in the Becker materials and many others that I didn’t retain. Screw the calculations on the Bec exam. Just go concept. Oh well, as least the writing was pretty easy. But that’s only 15% 🙁

    ExhaustedCPA,

I had to delete a sentence from your post as it was disclosing too much information about your exam.

I had a theory based test the first time I took BEC and was blown away the next time I took BEC because it was almost all calculations.

You just never know what the examiners feel like giving us.

Hey thanks Allyson. I didn't catch that. Yeah I guess depends on the luck of the draw

Most of my BEC were calculations. I felt like I have to know every formula in the material. I guess everyone's exam is different.

I have had a good mix in the 3 BEC exams I took. Do keep in mind, there will definitely be a good amount of theory questions since the test is timed. They can't give you too many calculation MCQs because the their isn't enough time. I have always noticed a good 1 or two ?s per testlet that require a good amount of calculation. These might require a couple minutes to complete. I also do remember seeing other questions that looked really busy, but those are sometimes the easy ones. It might look like you need to calculate something, and if you proceed you may waste all kinds of precious time. The key note her is to always read the last sentence of the problem first (especially if a long question), and proceed accordingly. I ran out of time on my 1st BEC exam, and after better time management, I got it done.

With BEC it varys so much, I had a lot of calculations and one calculation was asked like 3 times so I was good cause I knew the calcs.

    Just took BEC this morning.

A good 30% of the questions were common sense business questions not covered by Becker.

Most of the questions were doable. Written Communication was a breeze.

Got help me get a 75 or higher. I kept track of my questions and confidence for every question (40-Sure, 20-Select between two answers, 8-select between 3 answers, 4-total guess). Using a weighted avg, I think I landed somewhere around a 70% and much closer to 100% on the WC. Most of the questions seemed medium to difficult. We'll see how it plays out…in two damn months.

When I took BEC, there were quite a few questions from outer space that were not common sense to me at all! I was a little blindsided by it and angry with Becker during the exam. I would say there was a healthy mix of calculation and theory questions…I somehow ended up passing, but I don't think I could have if I hadn't studied the calculations…

    BEC: 79 - April 2011
    FAR: 78 - May 2011
    AUD: 81 - May 2012
    REG: 79 - October 2012
    Ethics: Passed - March 2013
    I am finally DONE!

Maybe “common sense” was too harsh…but I feel like I knew a good amount of them. I missed a couple of calcs which I had no clue on, so I'm hoping it all balances out.
