How to recover/ how should I study after a failed exam?

The first time I took FAR I had a feeling I wasn’t going to pass so I kept studying until the release date. I didn’t pass, but because I kept studying the information was still in my head and because of that I was able to pass.

Fast forward to October, I took Regulation. It wasn’t very pretty and i’m pretty sure I won’t be happy with the results. I studied for Audit after and took that in December. With the scores coming out very shortly, I was wondering how I should re-study for Regulation. At this point, unfortunately I pretty much forgot everything, especially since I studied for Audit hard.

So where do I go from here? Do I just start over my review course? I used CPA Excel and Ninja MCQs. I honestly don’t know where I would begin other than renewing Ninja MCQs. At least for me, unlike other sections, using CPAExcel was not very helpful for Regulation, and took too long.

I’m really not sure where I would go from here.

@Curb for my retakes this year I just focused on MCQs. That worked well for me on the first two, and I'm hoping to repeat that tomorrow, but like you I'm not feeling great about at least one of my exams.

I plan to do it all again if I don't pass, though. Just hammer MCQs. Maybe read the Ninja book a little more. I haven't had success with Wiley in the past, so I pretty much primarily use Ninja.

    AUD - 56 - 68 - 61 - 9/8/16
    REG - 75
    FAR - 7/15/16
    BEC - TBD

@Jennifer I don't have the Ninja Book I'd have the CPA Excel book. But you think just MCQs and lightly reviewing the book would suffice? I also have Ninja Notes but I wasn't able to utilize that too much before.

As long as you've already put in the study time, then I think you would be ok. I hit the questions hard and read up on topics that I could see were weak areas for me. I would bounce back and forth between Wiley and Ninja for questions when I started to feel like I'm memorizing them.

    AUD - 56 - 68 - 61 - 9/8/16
    REG - 75
    FAR - 7/15/16
    BEC - TBD

I put in a decent amount of time for Reg but I pretty much forgot everything unfortunately. Hopefully round 2 will be better.

That's not the right attitude! It should be – “Hopefully there is no round 2!” Think positive. 🙂

I somewhat agree with @Jennifer, based on my own FAR Q4 2017 experience. Most of the questions on the new format FAR were fair game. But, you have to make it possible for the following items to happen:

    – 1-1.5hr allocated for MCQs (I used up 2hrs+)
    – 2.5-3hrs for SIMs. (I only have about 1.5hr)
    – Must be proficient with AICPA's Test Sample Tests (practice ALL 4 sections if possible).
    – Practice ALL MCQs included in your CPA review materials. Ninja MCQs – FAR is decent (get the Sniper package if you can).
    – As to SIMs on the actual exam, you can get away with the AICPA Test Samples, comfortable with your FAR book(s), and you have the speed to finish all your SIMs on time.

I have taken multiple FAR exams in the past, a couple in the new format, and my biggest weakness was ‘speed' on answering MCQs, fast and accurate. On the actual exams, it wasn't enough knowing the material, but being a decent test-taker plays a great part in passing. Time management cannot be ignored.

Not so hopeful about my Q4 exams (FAR/REG/BEC), since I wanted to do more if I was fast enough, which I wasn't.

If I failed? Head's down, back on pounding Ninja MCQs + reviewing my 2017 book/notes + 2014 Becker book & practicing AICPA Test Samples multiple times.

I am praying for a pass or passes tonight.

I just found out I failed audit with a 66!! I felt prepared but obviously didn’t cut it, should I continue studying for audit and retake it Q1 2018 or try another section and come back to audit later?

Failed REG 74! And failed FAR 71! Best yet? My BEC expired 10/31 so that was my final shot.

Now I get to redo 3!

FAR: 65 (still drying my tears) 2nd attempt: 7/2016
BEC: 81 5/2016 (WOO FIRST PASS!)
    REG: 5/2016
    AUD: 8/2016

    Another 74! WTF!

I'm done, as in giving up. I'll be losing FAR credit in 3 months. This was my 3rd attempt at AUD (74, 67, 74). What do I do? Give up or sacrifice another 12 months of life? The latter I can't too, I've given up and sacrifice so much.

@iriemon DO NOT GIVE UP…we all know how stressful this process is but you just have to stick with it. When I got a 74 in BEC back in Aug I was devastated but then I stopped feeling sorry for myself and got back to it and just got my passing grade of a 78. Give yourself a week then start studying for AUD again, we can all help you get through this exam. Just post some questions that you feel you are having trouble with and we will get through this together. I have REG and FAR to go and I’ll be doing the same. WE GOT THIS

For my FAR retake I went through every chapter and did the pre-tests.If my score was 75 or higher I didn’t study that material. If it was between 60 and 74 I did some light MCQ and light review. If I did worse than 60 I really buckled down unless I was sure it was an insignificant chapter

I've just lost credit for BEC, which I scored 79. I tried FAR, got 73 for 1st attempt and then 74 for end attempt. I also got 73 on AUD. I feel I got so close but this process is not easy and I feel low self esteem.
