Hey Minimorty! I took REG in Feb and missed BOTH research questions, so thanks for saying I deserve it!! @ss! LOL. They were redic though, I still have no idea what they were asking. I retook REG in April and only had one research and nailed it… so there 😛

    AUD 81 (X4) Previous scores 59, 72, 72
    REG 80 (X3) Previous scores 59, 60
    FAR 75 (X2) Previous score 67
    BEC 79 (X2) Previous score 58

In 2010 and prior, there was one radio button you pushed for research, you got it right or you got it wrong… and it was only worth a point.

I don't know what the current score impact the research is, but now that there are multiple boxes to fill out, like a box for “IRC” and box for “Sec 179” and a box for “(r)(2)” I would be willing to bet you get some credit for each box. So you can get it partially correct.

(please don't go to the code and look up 179(r)(2)… I was just coming up with something that LOOKED like a code section.)

So in my craptastic example above, if you can get 6 points for the entire page… you could get 2 points for IRC, 2 for 179 and 2 for the paragraph number.

I have nothing to base this on… but seems logical.

    BEC - Pass 10/2010
    FAR - Pass 10/2010
    AUD - Pass 11/2010
    REG - Pass 05/2011

    Hi

Per Roger CPA, correct research answer will have 6 to 7 points, simulations of 40% divided by numbers of simulations/ tabs (of course excluding pre-test tabs of simulation)

    Thanks

    BEC ,REG, AUD - Passed
    FAR- Feb 11- 77 Passed
    Finally Done

New to the forum and this is one topic that peaked my interest after passing FAR and awaiting scores for the other three. Using REG as the example, if the research sim is truly worth 8% then it carries slightly more weight than 9 MCQs. My assumption includes two throw away questions for the MCQs leaving us with a denominator of 70. That being said I completely agree with Bob on this one. 8% seems almost criminal for one research sim.

I'm pretty confident I nailed the research sim in FAR and AUD but not sure about REG. The FAR and AUD research sims were the first questions I answered in the fourth testlet. The REG research sim was the last question I tackled in the fourth testlet so that is probably why I'm not too confident there.

I changed my philosophy after AUD when answering the simulation questions because it just seemed logical to me that the research sim would not be worth nearly as much as the other simulation questions. Therefore, I wanted to be sure to answer the other sims first and if time became a factor, like it did for me in REG, leave the lowest weighted question last. Apparently this may have backfired.

Hopefully this can be confirmed one way or another because if the research simulations are a full 1/5 of REG sims and 1/6 of AUD and FAR sims I would advise folks to answer these questions first since they seem to be easier points to earn. Especially if they carry the same weight as the other simulations in testlet 4.

I think the aicpa is very proud of the research part of the exam, and will weight it the same as the rest of the sims. I think there's partial credit for each section and sub section. If it was hit or miss 6 points is too much to lose for one incorrect answer. This is the easiest part of exam, I spent zero time preparing for research questions.

In the real world of accounting, being able to research an issue properly is an important skill to have. So if the research sim is worth around 7% of your grade than i see nothing wrong with it. Just my 2 cents.

    BEC - 10/15/10 - Pass
    AUD - 11/30/10 - Pass
    REG - 2/28/11 - Pass
    FAR - 5/31/11 - Pass

It's 2012. Could someone confirm whether RESEARCH is worth 1% or 7% of your grade? Thanks.

So I'm guessing no one REALLY knows the answer to this question?

    FAR - 92 (4/27/12)
    AUD - 96 (7/17/12)
    BEC - 92 (8/30/12)
    REG - 91 (11/12/12)

I guess this can be added to the two research question debate..

    BEC: 74;81
    AUD: 77
    REG: 71; 80
    FAR: 78
