Is this still true for 2011? Anyone have any idea? I'd love for it to be worth more with the new format…ha

    AUD 81 (X4) Previous scores 59, 72, 72
    REG 80 (X3) Previous scores 59, 60
    FAR 75 (X2) Previous score 67
    BEC 79 (X2) Previous score 58

In a recent “Gleim: CPA Hot Topics” email I received, it indicated that each task is equal to the others when scoring the simulations. In other words, if there are 6 tasks, each task accounts for 1/6th of the total simulation score, regardless of how many questions each task contains. The email also mentioned that if a candidate receives two research tasks in one simulation that each one will be graded equally, and candidates who receive two should NOT assume that one of them is a pretest question.

@appstatecpa ..that would mean that even research tabs, assuming they're operational (not pre-test), are worth 1/6th of 40%?

It would be 1/5 if they were all equal, 1 of 6 tabs is a pretest.

    Auditor,

It would be 1/6 for FAR and AUD, 1/5 for REG. That's assuming, of course, that the Gleim release is correct.

    FAR 4/1/11 - 89
    AUD 4/15/11 - 85
    REG 4/29/11 - 80
    BEC 5/13/11 - 85

@kb24 so Gleim is saying an operational (non pre-test) research tab is worth the same as an operational (non pre-test) regular TBS tab?

I haven't seen the Gleim email myself. I was referencing the info from appstatecpa's post.

    FAR 4/1/11 - 89
    AUD 4/15/11 - 85
    REG 4/29/11 - 80
    BEC 5/13/11 - 85

If its worth 1/5 in REG that makes me feel at at least a little better about the SIMS

    BEC - 86
    AUD - 94
    REG - 88
    FAR - 89

I certify this as dumb. if true, then (for REG), 8% of your overall grade is based on that research question. assuming that % right and the score given are about the same (a big if, I know, but I like my argument so I'm skimming over it :-P), then someone who was on track to get an 82 is now getting a 74 from one missed question. lamesauce like WOAH

@Bob – If a candidate get zero points on the research question, they probably deserve to fail. lol.

why? unless partial credit is given for finding one “close” to the answer? a whole bunch of times I'd find one that I thought answered the question, but there was something better somewhere else. -8% for that don't seem fair

My understanding is that partial credit is given. That being said, research questions are free points. If you miss them you either read the question wrong or were not diligent enough in your search.
