Has anyone received this message when trying to open Becker software?

“Error while unpacking program, code 2. Please report to author.”

If so, how did you get the problem resolved?

Becker technical support is closed until Monday, and I can’t afford to lose an entire weekend of studying.

Can't say I've received this message but I do have some suggestions.

Clean the disc

Restart your computer

Uninstall then reinstall the becker software

I just studied all of far with becker and i know you want to watch the lectures but I don't think it is going to hurt if you just look over the chapter for now and do some of the questions after each section. In the mean time, make sure you look at all the updates for FAR because there are a lot especially for F1.

It's unfortunate that the software wont work but if there is a problem with the disc it may take them a few days to send you a new one. F1 is a good chapter to go over if you don't have the lecture because it isn't really difficult. If it was me I would just start going over the chapter because like you I hated to lose time studying.

Thank you, James, for your response! I've tried disabling my antivirus software and I've tried reinstalling Becker, but nothing works. I've already viewed all of the lectures. I want to work on the PassMaster questions, but I can't access them.

I guess for now, I'll just study the chapters in the book as you recommend.

Oh i gotcha yea that's a shame and also really strange considering it was working before. Good luck to you, hope you can get the problem resolved. FAR was a lot of material huh, a crazy amount of info to remember. F2 was the bane of my existence lol.

Yes, FAR is a MONSTER! Have you taken it yet?

I'm reviewing F2 now. It's not fun. I went through the entire book once, so now I'm on my second round.

I find that F1, F8, & F9 are manageable. The others are another story!

I'm in the same boat as you, T-rex! With 11 days till my exam, I am finishing up the F8 & F9 sims, supplemental questions, and the progress test for F1 – F9.

Couldn't agree more about manageable vs. impossible—F1, F8 & F9 are a delight. The rest of it was hell, although the equity chapter was semi-manageable in parts. This is going to be a long final review process.

Yeah, Jim, this baby is a real a-kicker! Rawr! I see that it's your first section. If you can get through FAR, then AUD & BEC will seem like a picnic. REG, however, is another story.

I'm probably an over-studier, but I hope to take the sucker once and be done with it forever!

Yep had the same problem! install your window updates! All of them (took me two tries) it is very frustrating but it worked! Becker says it is the virus program but disabling them did not work! good luck!

Well, after spending 5 hours with Microsoft tech support, the problem remains unresolved. We weren't able to restore my computer to an earlier date. It just wouldn't work. Microsoft is useless. I now have a massive headache. I don't know if the problem is with Windows or Becker, but my guess is it's with Windows since it happened after Windows updates. I'll call Becker on Monday. You'd think they could have tech support available on weekends for the fortune they charge for their programs.

I've lost 2 days over this. Add those to the 5 days I recently lost due to surgery, and I'm not in good shape for this exam. If I fail FAR, it will cause me some serious trouble at work.

I think I'll go calm down now, and then study from the stupid book until Monday. Rawrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr! I am SO angry right now!

I hate everything about this &^%$*& exam process, and I'm beginning to regret going down this path!

I've calmed down now.

I hope no one else has this issue, especially close to his or her exam date. Once I'm able to open Becker again, I'm going to print out many of the questions, especially the tough ones, just in case this happens again.

What a pain in the @ss.

Thankfully, I have until 8/29 to master this stuff.

I cannot believe that it did not work! I definitely believe it is more Microsoft then Becker. I was locked out for like 3 to 5 hours! this whole incident inspired me to go and purchase Wiley so that I can work the multiple choice questions if this ever happened again.

Windows is likely the culprit, but I'm hoping Becker has a solution. I have some Gleim stuff that I could use as a backup if I had to, but I hate to switch programs this late in the game. I also have Becker's Final Review, which I'm able to open. And, I printed out a few of the more difficult questions from PassMaster awhile back. I guess I'll survive until Monday when I can get a hold of Becker.

If I ever figure out how to fix the problem, I'll post it here in case anyone else encounters this mess.

Problem solved! Thank goodness! I'll post the details in case they may help anyone else who encounters this situation.

The problem seems to have been related to Window updates, not to my anti-virus software and not to Becker.

Today, I received an update called “Windows Vista Service Pack 2 for x64-based Systems (KB948465).” I installed it and it solved the problem.

I suspect that the problem was caused by one of several Windows updates I received on 7/14/11, possibly one that mentioned a malicious software removal tool.

Anyway, I'm just happy this mess seems to be resolved. Whew!

good for you! quick question I see in your signiature that you have been passing the exams using becker. Is that all you have been using? I just decided to supplement mine with wiley plus. Also before the exam what are your guaging as a way to know that your are ready.
