AnonymousInactiveThe reason I ask this question is because right now, I’m doing nothing but studying. That’s all I do… study study study. I keep saying that I can’t wait until all this is over so I can get my life back, but when I think about it, I can only see myself getting easily bored because I’m so used to constantly being so busy studying.
My mom’s friend, who is an M.D., even told me that when she was studying for her Medical Licensing Exam, all she did was study like crazy and when she finally passed it, she was bored out of her mind. I can see myself being the same way once I’m all done with this.
So for those of you that are all done with all 4 parts of the CPA exam, do you find yourself bored easily?

AnonymousInactiveDon't think I will get bored JUST becuase I am done with studying. You got bored 'cause you don't have anything planned yet after you are done with your CPA. There are things I will do after get my CPA:
Get back to exercise and lost 15 lbs
take a trip or two
save some money for down payment for a convertible
re-decorate my house
trim that rose bush at fthe ront yard
put brinks at the back yard
host a patio party
catch up with all the parties I have missed
I got bored easily so I plan ahead to ensure I won't be bored. :-)…I also plan to find a weekend job at a CPA firm so I can gain experience running a CPA business…

kandisjoyParticipantHerbie – I'm horde. You? FIrst I got my druid to 85.. then my pally.. then my shaman (which I'm currently playing) “Kulah” on Kil'Jaeden. Now that I've listed them all, I've realized that I must be addicted to hybrids. 🙂
I don't have time to raid or anything anymore since I have roller derby and stuff. But I did actually meet my fiance in WoW over three years ago.. he was an officer in my raiding guild. Nerds find true love! We both quit playing for a while since I had the CPA exam (he didn't want to play without me – awwww).

soonerorlaterParticipantNow that I've passed and have my license #, I still find myself in shock of passing…no studying.
I understand your question and I do find myself searching for more things to get into to fill that “void” LOL.
I've found myself getting back into fighting and house projects (pergola). I can see if I didn't get into other stuff…one could get bored from conditioning themselves for all that studying then all of a sudden nothing.

Passed in June and nothing has filled the void. I got a puppy on Sunday and am trying to train him to get along with my 8 year old dog…but even that hasn't filled the spot that the stress and studying had in my life. Maybe I'm depressed to be done? Sounds silly, but has anyone else felt this way?

vanadium3Member@memmy29 I'm glad we are not alone. The whole process really messed me up. I don't have many things to talk about anymore besides accounting. Trying to do other hobbies, but you just can't really relax 100% like you used to. Maybe this has to do with growing up too?

memmy29Participant@Vanadium-
It's a strange feeling. I started at my tail end of 27 and I'm 30 now. I even had to study over my 30th birthday, so I didn't celebrate. I don't mean to discount the profession, and I definitely think getting the CPA is worth it, but I almost feel like I reached my goal and I'm disappointed. I was so excited when I passed I felt like I had the world by the throat…I don't really have another big goal like that to work towards.
I hope we can get back to life like everyone else. I'm working on other things for now (losing the CPA weight, thinking about having a child, training my puppy, landscaping), but I don't think any of those things include a definite endpoint like the CPA exam did- where I can reach it and be proud. When I passed and was so excited my husband said, “wow, I don't think I'll ever have anything to get that excited about”. I guess I'm realizing that the rest of life will be like that.
Now I'm babbling…good to know I'm not alone though.

AnonymousInactiveI sorta felt that way when I finished college…there were still study-options in the near future (RTRP, now CPA), but there was some boredom. But, as I've been working on the CPA, I've come up with all sorts of other things that I want to learn, so I suspect that my boredom time will be converted to other studying. I don't expect life to change drastically – I have a job that I expect to still be content in, and I know that the CPA won't change my payscale at said job…or my day-to-day work…so I don't anticipate too much trouble. But we'll see.
I definitely have no social life. 😛 But I didn't really pre-exams, either, so I can't blame the CPA on that. I'd like to develop some social life afterwards, but I doubt that will happen. 😐 Pessimist in my coming out lol. I'm just thinking that learning a language, learning guitar, and actually studying gardening techniques will relieve the pressure to learn! Also may buy a fixer-up house and pour hours into painting, scrubbing, and wiring. Most of the cheap houses around here have had their copper stripped, so I'll either need to become an electrician on the side, or cough up some cash…might study electricity for a break from boredom, and save money at the same time! 😉
…I'll have to come back and post after I've finished them all and know if I'm bored. lol. I've only had breaks of a couple months from studying since I was about 3, so we'll see how being done feels…! If I get to yearning for studying, I'm thinking that an MBA and CMA will cure that!

smp73MemberI am in this boat. Part of the reason I bumped up CIA studying. I added 5k's to the mix, endless dog walks and trying to date (ha) but I really do not think there will ever be that insane excitement when I saw the score for REG (my last exam). I seriously thought I was weird.
This whole relaxing thing is weird for me. I schedule time to relax other wise I go and go and go. Is this growing up or CPA void?
@memmy what kind of dogs? I have two dogs. I think they are sick of my “Free time” I used to wake up before work to study now I wake up drag them out of bed for a walk. Fairly certain they would prefer to sleep!

Liss, Master of CoinParticipantOh good, I'm glad I'm not the only one who worries about this. Sometimes I worry I only began this CPA journey is because I got bored after completing my MBA. (I may have done my MBA out of boredom too; I took a year off after my Bachelors then started MBA; recently realized I signed up for my CPA review course almost a year to the day after I finished my last grad school class).
I'm hoping once I'm licensed ill take up running (maybe train for a marathon) or yoga. Save some money so I can travel.
Unfortunately I already doubt those will happen as I've already considered tackling CIA next (even though I doubt it'll help me career wise since I didn't even know about it until I found this forum.)
There maybe something wrong with me..

memmy29Participant@liss- Sounds like me. I finished the M.Acc. and realized I was eligible for the CPA (I originally thought I wouldn't be since my BA was in Political Science), and immediately jumped into studying. So I guess it's really been more like 5 years that I was insanely busy, and now I'm not.
@smp- I have an 8 year old Catahoula mix and just adopted a 5 month old Catahoula-Ridgeback mix. I love dogs and my sisters and parents have a lot of them too. I have never raised two on my own, and before adopting the puppy, my 8 year old pup and I were inseparable. I'm worried because my 8 year old is ignoring the puppy- I hope he doesn't resent me for getting him a brother. I was hoping they would get along great, and maybe they will since it's only been 6 days. I wanted the puppy to help keep him young and get more exercise, but my husband thinks I tried to fix something that wasn't broken.
How was it when you got your second dog? Maybe I'm reading into the older dog's emotions more than I should. I've noticed I'm pretty emotional and lacking patience since my exam has been over 🙁

memmy29ParticipantAlso, I bought the materials and registered to take the CIA exam next month. All of a sudden I'm not into it. I guess it's probably because I know it's not nearly as hard to attain as the CPA. I guess I'm not impressed- haha. Oh well…I guess I should really follow through with it though…I do work in Internal Audit so maybe it will help me out at some point.
