New to the forums and the test – my friend who recently passed told me about this site. Over the past two months I took REG and FAR (definitely will not take both these tests so close together again), and on both of them I ran out of time. I use Becker study materials and place some of the blame on them as the simulations given are much easier and much less time consuming then the actual CPA exam. On both tests I left myself about an hour for the simulations and both tests I was unable to finish them. I feel that I did really well on the MC but very poorly on the Sims.

Would you guys think I even have a chance of passing either of these exams?

REG – 1 sim completely blank, completely guessed on the research as I ran out of time

FAR – 2 sims completely blank, research was a general guess, did not feel so great about the other sims.

On a side note does anyone else find it extremely hard to complete the sims when they have two tabs (which you have to scroll up and down) and also have to use the calculator on such a small screen. I feel like it takes forever to organize all the info given and it is very time consuming to wright everything down compared to having information given to you on a sheet of paper. This very frustrating especially when I know the material so well and feel as though I did great on the MC and just got straight up hosed on the Sims.

    REG 81
    FAR 70,85
    BEC 81
    AUD 91

I took 2 parts of the CPA exam in 2010 (passed both FAR and AUD) and took the other 2 in 2011 (BEC and REG), and failed REG. Since BEC does not have any task-based simulations and is not relevant to this discussion, I have to be brutally honest and say your chances of passing are slim to none. Why I said that is because my FAR exam in 2010 went just like many people here have posted… I left 1 simulation tab completely blank and basically put BS down for all the other tabs, and ended up passing with an 82. Fast forward to 2011 when I took REG, I was all cocky and felt confident leaving the exam even though I did just as poorly on the sims as I did on my FAR exam. 1 month later, I received my score of 70. Again, I just want to be honest, but those feel-good stories about getting lucky on prior year exams just don't apply anymore. While it is possible since I guess I didn't miss a passing score by thaat much, you had to have scored every possible point on the sim tabs that you did complete to have a chance. I do hope that you get lucky and are an exception. REG is such a pain, especially for non-tax professionals. I am also waiting to hear back about my REG score in September.

I don't think we should bum out the OP by automatically assuming that he/she failed. Why don't we wait and see what the scores are? We should be getting scores in 2 weeks.

@Minimorty… You sre taking a very immature stance with most of the people on the forum with arogant responses and its not really helping anyone. Stop being negative and please use a more positive stance on your responses….. I have seen you take this tone with me and others on the forums… We get it you passed

FAR: 7/17/10 missed exam FML reschedule 8/29/10-77 EPIC!

@killaking – I'm not sure that arrogant is the correct word for my responses. I have only taken and passed one exam so far (although I am waiting for two scores). I have no illusions that I am better than anyone else on the forum. I think a number of my posts have been insightful, helpful, and entertaining. All I try to do is tell it like it is. I am not going to candy-coat my responses in order to make the op feel better. I understand this is a forum where people go for support. I am here to support those people. However, I also think it is important that a realistic response be provided to those who are asking questions. Only rarely will I provide a truly sarcastic response. I remember one op came on here scoring in the 90s on the Becker review materials and was concerned that he wasn't scoring high enough. I responded that anything less than 100% is unacceptable and he should delay his exam. Was it sarcastic? Yes. Did the response really cause any harm? No. I'll make a conscious effort to watch my tone, but silly questions may receive silly responses once in a while. I just want to bring a realistic point of view to the forum.

I'm with Mini on this one…I've seen him support plenty of people on this forum. Remember when teachers would always say, “there is no such thing as a stupid question”? Well, that's a bigger farce than truly bipartisan politicians. There ARE stupid questions and when I see one, I jump all over it like a fat kid watching his last ho-ho start to roll down a hill. At the end of the day, if the OP (sorry, dude) wants someone to pat him on the back and tell him that he probably did fine, he'll call his mom, dad, wife, etc. If he wants truthful, unbiased advice from hundreds (if not thousands) of strangers, he'll post his query on a public forum. We're all here to get answers to our questions and we all have an opportunity to offer our own opinions, regardless of how blunt they may be.

Here's my analysis for FAR – 6 of the 7 TBS count. Let's be conservative and assume OP gets no points for the 2 he left blank and missed the research. TBS count for 40%, so best case scenario is 20% (assuming he was perfect on the other 3 TBS that count). MC count for 60%, so best case scenario is 60% (assuming he was perfect). In the most unrealistic, absolute best case scenario, he's already down to 80%, so yes, it's still possible to pass.

I agree.. the OP asked for our opinions. He didn't say “If you think I passed, please respond. Otherwise don't.” He asked, Mini responded. I don't see what the big deal is.

Ok, Labruin, but we're giving our REALISTIC opinions here. It's also statistically possible to walk up to a roulette wheel and land on red 100 times in a row; you have a .00000000000000000000000000000035% chance, to be precise, or 1 in 282,559,004,200,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 times. Granted, that's a bit of an exaggeration, but we're just trying to be realistic here. I mean personally, if it was me, I would be like, “gee, maybe they're right”, and continue to study whatever section I just took because the odds are against me.

I try not to get involved in these arguments but, I heart Mini… He is my Simon Cowell, he says what everyone else is thinking but doesn't have the 8alls to say, blunt, and to the point… Other than that I hope not to offend the people Mini has already offended 😛

    REG 80 (X3) Previous scores 59, 60
