Devastated – Failed REG and AUD in Q1, both with a 73

I had software crash in REG, had to jump through hoops and call/email NASBA & Prometric a ton to get it rescheduled for 6 days later, and then failed with a 73.

I lost about a week of AUD study time due to the REG retake and just found out that I failed with a 73. I had felt very good coming out of AUD too, like was expecting to pass with a high 80s score.

I’m like despondent. I have two kids & work full time so to fail both by two points is really discouraging. I don’t even know what order to retake!

Don't sweat it. These tests are complete BS! Dust yourself off & keep going. I've been at this since 2013. Took 6x to pass FAR 3x AUD 1x BEC & just failed REG with a 66. This test has been a nightmare for me. But you can't take it personal and you HAVE TO keep moving forward

That software thing sounds like a worst nightmare, you were so close! But you can only go forward, not back (as someone once told me :/)…it seems like for both of them you were almost there anyway despite your busy schedule so it's obvious you can do it, it's just putting the time in, when I guess a lot of us could be done by now.

How much study time did you put into REG and AUD? I think both of these have a lot of minute details that make them both ones you have to be very careful on.

AUD is easier to study for but considering you don't know when you get the NTS, it depends on how much extra time you need to put into each since they are prob fresh in your memory. For the 2nd time around depending on how well you grasp the material you prob only need a couple weeks for that one. REG IDK, maybe a month or two. June is a blackout month so I think it is possible to get it done by May or July depending on how safe you want to play it this time.

    Jax.

You were close and you have two done and it's OK to be bummed out, that's being human.

So if you wanna feel bad, feel bad and carry on.

Pick one of the two sections, get a new multiple choice bank (I choose gleim b/c more difficult.) Keep doing a few hours every day and understand why things are right/wrong.

You'll feel the difference, the multiple choice will help the sims.

Don't take any topic for granted, rock on and repeat.

    JAX-

Taking 2 parts in a window with kids and spouse is NOT easy. I have the same as you and tax season to deal with at work.

My exam never crashed but I failed 2 parts this quarter as well.

BTW AICPA does not care what you have going on in life (kids, tax season, etc..). They are just in in it for the money like any other business.

Just know that you are in the same boat as so many. I believe the majority of CPAs have failed a section or two (I know I have) and it's gut wrenching. Unless you have some kind of specific deadline, I would choose your least favorite material to study and give it hell in one quarter. Work as many problems as humanly possible and understand why the answers are correct and why the others are incorrect. You could very easily be able to retest in late April and early may and then schedule the next in early Q3. You are half way there! I know that you can do this!

That experience would throw most people off of their game. Let today be the day for you to dwell in it. Wake up tomorrow with a purpose and a plan of attack. Take whichever test you last studied for first. Approach the studying as if you haven't studied it before though. Don't try to learn “what you didn't do well on”. Redo all of it.

You'll get there. We know you can pass these exams given you already have two down. This site has a great support group. We're all with you.

I had something similar happen to me before FAR with software issues. Basically, I was upset and wasn't even going to take FAR at all.

In terms of schedules, if you ask around, we all struggle with similar issues, I work full time, I have a kid who is in sports and training 3 nights out of the week plus practices and I'm getting married in 5 months. Life can get crazy and I think it's one of the constant struggles all humans have – HOW DO YOU FIND BALANCE IN LIFE? You've got work, family, studying, friends, personal time, it's unending. In my boat, my health has suffered since I've been taking the exams – I'm not exercising and my diet has gone to hell. I look flabby, I'm going to have a flabby CPA studying body for my wedding :'(

Anyway…Retake – close your eyes, take a couple deep breaths and thoughtfully consider each exam. You took AUD last. Would you rather pick up where you left off and keep studying for AUD? Do you think you could put in another 3 weeks and pull out a pass? Or, maybe REG would be better to take next because it's longer and you can get the longer one out of the way first. Make the decision and chose to stick with it because there is really no right answer to the question; what's right for you will be wrong for other people. Just decide what you're going to do an go balls to the wall with it.

Hang in there! The end is near. If you can wrap up these two exams in the next testing window, you'll be clear for the summer – and you should have enough time to do both retakes in the next window if you stay focused. You're so close so you know that you have a pretty good understanding of the material, you just need a little more to get you to the finish line. Think back to the exam – what parts had you completely stumped? Start there.

    Good luck!

    I took 3 exams, and got 74 on each of them. 2*AUD + 1*REG

    What are the odds???!

can someone tell me what is going on with AICPA when they grade people? I don't buy this that I'm exactly 1 score short each time!
