CPA or not to be

I started studying/testing in Nov 08, have failed BEC 6 times, FAR 3 times. Passed AUD and REG first time but have lost credit so basically have to start all over. I have my CFE and am debating right now whether to get my CGAP (I do govt audits for a very, very small firm along with some tax work) or try one more time to pass the CPA exam. Once I pass I’ll get a smallish raise, be able to sign audits if the senior partner retires, and IF we ever move, I’m hoping it will help with finding a job (I’m 47 now so not sure when the move could occur).

Here’s my problem: I’ve used every course out there CPAEXCEL, Yaeger, Lambers, Gleim, Becker and can not seem to get past the cost accounting/financial mgmt in BEC. I had a crappy accounting professor so feel as if I could really use a in person college type CPA review but can’t find one in the Tulsa area. I’ve gotten to the point that any of the PC based courses I can memorize the questions and answers but obviously am missing the concept. Has anyone had this kind of issue and what did you do?

I have not had this issue, but commend you on your perseverance. Any thoughts on maybe taking another cost accounting class at a local college?

    BEC 84 Q4 2010
    REG 79 Q1 2011
    FAR 86 Q2 2011 - Done

That's an option I am considering. It would have to be either another school (Ok State is in Tulsa) or at least another professor. The one I had did absolutely NO teaching…in fact he spent the class telling us his life story, never any homework, no tests, complete waste. Of course I thought at the time all I needed was the 24 accounting credits – I mean how hard could the test be….I'd always gotten straight A's….lol.

I know this is going to sound totally rediculous and I'm at work now but have you exhausted google and you tube for cost accounting concepts? I've seen accounting concepts presented in unique ways (such as Jeff's gumball machine for audit sampling, actually pictured that during my AUD exam) and sometimes a very simple analogy or diagram makes it all click.

    FAR- 77
    AUD -49, 71, 84
    REG -56,75!
    BEC -75

Massachusetts CPA (non reporting) since 3/12.

I think the problem there would be the same as the one I have watching videos – I'm a kinetic learner which means I have to physically do a task in order to learn it. That's where I was thinking taking a course may be the best option. Of course that may solve my cost accounting issue but I sure don't want to retake all 24 hours of accounting just to take this test…lol.
