I've been reading this forum for the past couple months as I began studying for my exams. I thought I would post now that I just got my score for BEC and got an 84 and am studying for AUD now. I am using Surgent CPA review, and I noticed not many people on here say they have used this review course.
I have had success with it so far, but I still have 3 exams to go, I was wondering if anyone has or is using Surgent and their thoughts on it?

@Mogo I am using Surgent. I don't like the assessment in the beginning since I don't know the answers, but that is how Surgent assesses and sets the study plan. I just took REG and I didn't pass, so back to REG.

I'm in CA so dealing with all the access issues… Finally managed to log in after attempting all day and viewed my Q3 scores. I couldn't view detail reports on each so not sure which areas were stronger and which ones were weaker. I guess that can wait until after access issues are resolved.

I took FAR, BEC, and REG in Q3. Passed FAR (82) and BEC (85), failed REG (61). I have to pass REG in Q4 or my AUD will expire and I'll have to retake it. I foolishly prepped for REG using Wiley only and my score reflects that lack of prep. Also, the 2 weeks prior to REG test were super stressful due to things going on in my personal life so I'm sure that had an impact too. I will sign up for Ninja REG course and hopefully be done with it by Thanksgiving.

    Good luck to all!

@mogo I am using Surgent as well. Seemed to work well for me for REG.. Taking FAR in October so we'll see how that goes.

Passed Audit with stronger MCQ and Weaker Sims. So it is possible to pass with weaker sims !!

@Pam, here are my scores for FAR in 3 consecutive windows: 52, 64, 75. So I am proof you can make the leap. I took BEC (6 tries) until I passed it. That exam had my number. I can't explain. My philosophy was take it until you pass, period. And don't move on until you do. This worked for me, and I saw that it worked with others (admittedly less tries for them). You are closer than you think. When I studied between the last two windows, there were so many topics where I was like, why did I struggle with this before?

@lilac, how did you improve your scores for FAR each time? I started in the 60's but keep going down..Did you rewatch the lectures each time?

    Still locked out in CA….
No exaggeration, one of the worst days of my life. Thanks CA board.
If I get a non passing score I think It solidifies this in the top 5 worst days.
    IF I pass… all is forgiven 😉

Thanks! I will take note of that and also utilize that strategy (already know JE are my weaknesses) so I'm def targeting that area.. Also, do you recommend re-watching lectures? Im not sure if I should based on my scores I def am lacking some knowledge/foundation, however, I do plan on reading the book again. I really appreciate the help!

Passed Audit. Whoever posted, “Read the book until you throw up”, THANK YOU! It was brutal, but it worked. I read, I took notes, I re-wrote my notes, I condensed the key topics into a new set of notes, read some more…and it worked. It was a long day at work and I am tired. Time to study FAR.

Earlier this summer, I started to feel that there was no way I could possibly pass all 4 parts within the 18 month window. Now, time for the home stretch.

@IwannabeaCPA2017. I only rewatched lectures to review certain topics. No way could I watch them all over again. There's no time! I focused on application with MCQs and SIMS, and using lectures to supplement – not the other way around. I think I read somewhere that you start with learning 80% and application 20%. But in order to advance, those ratios need to be flipped. Also, based upon what studies show for adult learners, during my final review I took a break every 50 minutes or so. Seemed counter-intuitive, but I read that your brain needs time to process before it can incorporate new information. I also read my notes out loud and spoke out loud as I was doing problems. I read that what we read and speak, we retain better than what we think. Oh, I also read studies that show vigorous exercise prior to studying or taking an exam helps the brain. I just remembered that before I entered the exam room, I did jumping jacks in the bathroom! Also at the break, did a brisk walk around the building. Ha! It all seemed to work for me!
