Does anyone else think the ethics course is the biggest pile of sh*t when it comes to requirements?

I mean Ethics was covered in REG, touched on in AUD, and briefly discussed in BEC.

Maybe I'm just ranting here (again), but if any CPA was to engage in an unethical act, I don't think they would consult their AICPA course and say, “Hey, wait, Tim Olinto, said that embezzling from the slush fund is unethical.” Nope. They're going to do it anyway.

But hey, what do I know, maybe this ethics course has stopped a modern day Jeff Skilling in their tracks.

Of course it's bullshit. Just another revenue stream for them. Luckily for me, I'm in a state where it doesn't require to take that stupid ethics exam.

Yeah, I'm a little heated with Virginia, oh well, can't win them all…I guess this is better than having to work in public accounting for a year.

    AUD - 1st - 60 (12/12), 61 (2/13), 61 (8/13), 78! (11/15)
    REG - 55 (2/16) 69 (5/16) Retake(8/16)
    BEC - 71(5/16) Retake (9/16)
    FAR - (8/16)

I haven't taken it, but it does seem like overkill. I am sure AICPA likes it because it “protects” the profession and the association. When a CPA does something unethical, they can say they required the CPA to take an ethics course and it was also covered in the CPA exam. The same reason companies have employee handbooks and sign honor codes…to protect the company.

@TurboSandwichCPA – I think this has more to do with the AICPA covering themselves (and us in the near future) than the situation you described. Citing the ethics exam and BEC/AUD/REG material gives them evidence to publicly disassociate themselves to any discredible act committed by a member.

Waiting for my FAR score. I'm literally sick to my stomach. I'm praying to the CPA Gods that I passed. If I passed, I'm finally done.

@Karrie: Going into the exam, I was in a full-fledged panic because I didn't get through all of the material until, maybe, 16 hours before the exam. While taking the exam, I thought it wasn't too bad. About 90% of the questions, in my opinion, were pretty reasonable/fair.

I couldn't tell if the second testlet was harder than the first, but I felt just like you when it comes knowing the material. I felt as if I knew enough to answer just about each question. And for the questions I had to guess on, I think I was able to make a reasonably educated guess.

Hopefully we find out that we got scores in the mid 80s!

I felt good when I walked out of BEC a few weeks ago, but with the score release tonight I all of a sudden feel like I failed and am expecting the worst.

What's everyone doing to keep a clear head today?

Lol this whole time not once did it occur to me that I'd have to pay for the ethics exam too. With what I've spent in testing fees and courses somebody could have gotten themselves a pretty decent brand new car. I guess what's one more fee at this point :/. I agree on the questionability of the ethics exam. Its not like someone with low ethical standards is going to answer the questions honestly instead of with what the aicpa wants to hear. But as you have said its more to cover themselves than anything.

I'm glad the doomsday clock is back up I was starting to worry they weren't going to release the scores tonight since they hadn't put it up.

Surprisingly, I'm not as nervous as I was the last time for score release. That was just way too long of a wait. But I did go on a shopping spree over the weekend so maybe I'm manifesting my anxiety differently this time Hahahaha
