I can’t stand the calculator used in the Wiley software because I have to use my mouse to select the numbers rather than using the keypad, which I’m much quicker at. Is the calculator tool on the real exam connected to the keypad (like the Windows calculator feature)? That could really save some time!

I realize with Audit I won’t use it much but I have BEC upcoming and I expect to use it a good deal in that exam.

    Thank you,

The calculator on the exam is not connected to a keyboard. It's the pop-up calculator and you have to use your mouse. Just their way of having a little fun w/ you I guess.

    REG - 2/11 - 89

Do you mean that you have to click every number to use the calculator on the exam? That is not true. The Prometric computers all have a 10-key on the side of the keyboard and you can use it to enter numbers and press enter to get a summation. Just make sure you have the numlock on!

I think not allowing at least a basic calculator is a fairly dumb rule. Implemented by the AICPA, not Prometric. When I took Reg I had to use the calculator more than I was expecting and I can't tell you how many times my computer glitched out and I had to start completely over on my calculations. It was frustrating. I wrote a novel at the end of the exam suggestions screens complaining about the glitching screen, and the fact they do not allow Prometric to provide you with a basic manual calculator.

Well, I guess I will find out for certain tomorrow morning when I take AUD.

@UAcpa – I will have things to say too if I run into issues. I don't understand why Prometric is not allowed to provide calculators. If they control them and issue them, there should be no problems that I can see.

If it would have caused me not to pass I would have had some serious complaining to do. I think it is a retarded rule. Prometric guy told me that the AICPA is one of two or three organizations that do not allow a manual calculator out of the all of the exams that they administer. They administer a TON of exams.

At the prometric centers you can use the ten-key on the keyboard to enter amounts in the on-screen calculator, there is also a tape function in the new 2011 format that I LOVE! Personally I think adding the tape to the calculator was an awesome idea and I cant believe they didnt do it sooner!
