AishanParticipantI am preparing BEC with Becker and Yeager, I watched all lectures and did problems from Becker,Wiley and Yeager. I took exam on Aug 31 and failed again with 69 . I need some help how to prepare for this, specially with newer topics( project mgmt,IT, Operations) or what material/book should i refer after taking 4 times. I have two more attempts to pass Aud and BEC, otherwise I will loose credit for Reg.

FAR 69 75

snick722ParticipantAishan – I took BEC while only using Becker to study. I read the book until I understood every word. I watched the lectures even if I already knew the material. I did the questions over and over and over again. The first time I took one of the exams, I read the book and watched the lectures, etc. and walked in feeling like I knew it all, and of course, I failed. The difference this time was that I didn't just read/watch/answer mcqs… I REALLY understood it. The more questions you can get a hold of, the better it will be for you I think. The more questions you expose yourself to, the more you get to thinking deeper into concepts. This goes for any of these tests, not just BEC. I hope this helps 🙂

AishanParticipantThanks Snick722,
I am trying to read each chapter line by line so i have better understanding of every concept. Since I sat for this section # of times, i have memorized all the ans of becker MC. This time i will try Gleim. Do yo have any suggestions for WC, as i was weaker according to my score report.
thanks

snick722ParticipantAishan, what do you mean by WC? If you catch yourself re-reading and understanding topics that you didn't really understand before, you are on the right track. That's what happened with me when I studied for AUD for the 3rd time. I had the same problem where I would just memorize the answer since I'd seen the question so many times, without really understanding WHY it was the right answer. That's why I really liked looking at Wiley, so that I could get different questions on the same topics and that helped me understand better.
btw, I just saw your previous post from last year on Lambers…. I highly recommend staying away! I took either REG or BEC (I can't remember which) using Lamber's the first time and I failed horribly. It irks me to find grammatical errors and mistakes in my study materials, and I found a lot of that in Lamber's as well as CPAExcel (although, that was more than a year ago-I hear CPAExcel is much better now)…

snick722ParticipantOh ok sorry, it's been a while since I took BEC. I know the format has changed since last year, so I can't remember exactly but I'm confident that if you REALLY know the material, you will be fine in the WC. Do practice WC as much as you can.
For AUD, I was weaker in the simulations when I took it the second time, so this time, I made sure to practice as many simulations as I can… and although they were very different on the actual exam, I still understood better what to look for in my answers

kb24ParticipantI don't know if you read them, but I thought that the recommendations re the WC in the Becker introductory text were very good. I did think that the “good” answers were wordier than needed, though. The main things to think about are:
– structure should consist of introduction, body, conclusion
– use paragraphs and don't use bullet points
– answer the question being asked – it doesn't matter if your answer is correct or not as long as you directly address the question
– use correct grammar and spelling – Becker gives explanations of the most common errors
Good luck.

ROACHMember@CPA, I just realized how sucky Yaeger BEC is. IT section is worthless on Yaeger. Financial Mgt isn't too bad but maybe that's because I familiar with that stuff. IT is a large section of the BEC exam.. Cindy should revamp her whole style for IT. She just reads from the book and keeps telling us.. “Do you gotta know this stuff?.. The answer is “YES” HAHAHAHHAA” like seriously Cindy… do you gotta do that ever 5 seconds? I'm done with the video lectures.

AishanParticipantThanks for all your support guys,
I was very disappointed this time, I used to be weaker in IT and financial but this time i was comparable in these section.
weaker in econ, operations and governance. When i got 74 back in dec 2010, i was stronger in all area except IT. I also
don't understand where i am missing.
As far as Aud this time, I thought i did ok and did simulations well. I was able to match six out of 7 sims ans but when i saw my scores, report says that my sims are weaker.

Treat your re-takes as if it were the first time you are taking the exam. Start from scratch with every topic, unless there is something you are just super comfortable with.
BEC: I found Yaeger great for calculation topics. I loved how Cindy walked me through cost accounting and variances. She'd take a question and tell you to know how to do it and then tell you it could be asked from another angle. That helped me tremendously. I also made a single cheat sheet of formulas (many of Cindy's) and made copies of it for my purse, the bathroom wall, my office wall, and my car. I write small. Always look at the formula sheet and make sure you know them. I remember one formula I got 3 times in 3 different questions. They wanted to make sure I knew the concept behind it and not just lucky guessing. Flashcards were really great for BEC too. I kept them in my car and read them every day in the school carline waiting for my kids. Even just a handful a day made a difference.
For IT and Econ, I used Becker. They are great for summarizing and getting you to memorize what you need to know. IT was just trying to remember all the tiny details.
AUD: I used Becker, but I took the exam last year. Again, I spent a lot of time working on pure memorization and mnemonics. I'm not sure about any other reviews for AUD but I thought Becker was fine.
It sounds like you are having trouble with the parts of the exam that are more conceptual and require memorization. Do you think you need to reinforce those skills?
Are you taking practice exams? I think Becker's practice exams are really hard but they make you think. They have saved my butt on many occasions.
You are halfway there. You are so close.
