I just found out (I waited until after my vacation to look at my score) that I failed AUD again for the second time. The first time I received a 73, and this time I received a 66. I studied twice as hard for this one (used Becker both times), and even purchased the Becker Flashcards this time. I felt 10 times more prepared. Yet my score dropped 7 points. I don’t know what to do now. I have moved on to FAR (using Yaeger now). Any suggestions for AUD in the future?

i did the wiley testbank 4 times, thats about 4000mcq, i did the ones on cpareviewforfree.com 3 times, thats about 1500 and i did the 2009 becker passmaster 2 times. thats about 1600 mcq. i am sure i over did it just didnt want to fail my first exam. but to pass you have to really have an understand of the principles of accounting for some of those sims

Actually, my question was for Future_CPA. That was my fault. I should have made that clear.

The reason I ask the OP this question is because doing lots of practice questions is what really helped me in AUD.

My trick for AUD was to memorize everything. Just having a general idea and reasoning through it on the exam won't work. Memorize the opinions word-for-word. Memorize the various risks, audit procedures, and management assertions associated with them. You can't memorize enough for the exam.

    FAR: 84
    AUD: 95
    REG: 78
    BEC: 88
    ETHICS: 100

Thank you all for your posts. rknight21: the sims definitely killed me. I felt so lost on the sims. I know that's one major thing that I missed on the exam. But how do you prepare for them? Seems impossible. CPAMan: I did all the MCQ in the Becker software at least 3 times. Maybe I should try rknight21's approach and do thousands more questions from other programs as well. CPAMan: what questions did you use (i.e. Becker, Wiley, etc)? mnCPAwannabe: I will also consider your approach. Your score proves that you did something right. lol

yeah memorizing is your bestfriend. eat plenty of that seafood and get to memorizing lol….

in all honesty its almost impossible to really prepare your self for the sims other than knowing basic jornal entries, how one entry affects income statement, know the different reports and stuff like that.

you also have to be mentally strong… it took a hell of alot of enrgy to remain calm and not break down during some of those sims. lets just say i had a new found respect for ppl who passed when i iwas doing those sims

key to the sims is to stay calm, stay calm, stay calm and try to reason clearly. you can rush through the mcq's but not the sims. i spent 2 hours on mine

Future CPA I just started using Yeager I think it talks about ratios and the sims alot better than becker.

FAR: 7/17/10 missed exam FML reschedule 8/29/10-77 EPIC!
    REG: 5/31/11-73 SMH, 8/31/11-85
    BEC: 4/15/10-72 : retake 10/3/10-80
    AUD: 11/28/10-74, 02/27/11-71 FML, 8/1/11-80
    Ethics 10/22/22-80, retake 11/28/11 - 88

It took me 3 times to pass Aud. I use Becker and Gleim. Gleim has lots of Sims to practice, it help you to understand the material better. Do a lot of MCs,make sure you score stronger on every section for MCs. It will help you to pass.

yeah if I didn't pass the exam I took yesterday, it will most certainly be because of sims. Even though I feel OK/relatively confident, I can admit I probably only practiced doing about 4-5 SIMS total. Next time it'll have to be more like 14-15.

I think the old strategy of doing thousands of MCs over and over again helps to a certain extent but nowhere near as much as it used to because the sims are now 40% of your grade.

My new strategy for the retakes (REG/FAR) I need to do will consist of focusing heavily on doing all the sims, trying to do all the example problems in the books that they bring up on my own, and buying some GLEIM sims as well. Slightly less focus on the MCs.

    Starting fresh in 2010 w/Becker!
    BEC: 74,80 (expired), 78 - FAR: 64, 60, 74, 68, 76 - REG: 70,60,75 - AUD: 74,78
Can't change the past but I CAN make the future.
    DONE - 6/8/13. After 6 LONG YEARS.
