Are you able to study for an exam while you're waiting for the score of another?

I passed my first exam last August (BEC) and since then have felt pressure to get through the remaining three exams as fast as I can. That being said, I feel that I should use any free time I have wisely and devote it towards studying. Unfortunately, what I feel I SHOULD be doing isn’t quite translating into what I AM doing.

I took AUD earlier this month and have found myself in a “holding pattern” until I receive my score. I can’t seem to focus on the next exam since I am so anxious to see how I performed. Does anyone have any tips or ideas on how to overcome the “wait period” and move on to the next exam?

    F - 77 (May 2013)
    R - 83 (Nov 2013)

What I really want to say is don't study. Just wait until you know your score and then you can focus on your next exam. I want to say that because I want somebody to say that to me!

I took FAR on the 5th so I have no idea if I passed or not. And being that this was my first exam, I probably should have given myself a break but everyone always says to move on to the next section, so that's what I did. It's not easy, especially studying tax stuff, which has to be the least comprehensive material of the bunch. I found it difficult to focus but I know it'll start to come together in the end, like FAR did.

Now I'm glad I did because I've already gone through the whole book once and I'm familiar with the material. I'll take REG next regardless if I passed FAR or not. Then I'll schedule a retake if necessary. I will say this, I'm not moving on from FAR or REG untill I pass them both though.

I guess I didn't really answer your question, haha. Basically just keep pushing along. All I can offer is my experience. It's probably taking twice as long to read through material since ill sit and stare at a page for 20 mins thinking about whether I passed or not. But progress is progress.

You have to try to push it out of your head. Especially when we get stuck waiting a month for a score. You can get a lot of studying done in a month.

While it would be awesome to just wait to study every time you're waiting for a score, it would take forever to get through the test.

It's tough to study while waiting, but I think its worth it. Really, it depends on how quickly you want to get this all done with. If you choose not to study while waiting, you extend the total amount of time you are a CPA candidate. You just have to try really hard to put the other one out of your mind and focus. In my mind, shortening the testing experience is worth the extra effort.

It's hard but try to push it out of your head. Sorry I wasn't more helpful. I know its hard to focus fully on another section while you're waiting for scores on a prior section.

It always helps me refocus when I remind myself the 18 month clock starts ticking the day you take the test… not the day you receive your score.

Then I study in 25 min blocks. I focus on the new material for just 25 minutes. Then take a 5 min. break. Which is when I usually check this website and obsess about the score I'm waiting for.

I also find it helpful to join the study group for the next session. Reading the posts of other people going through the same thing and discussing specific material for the next test is pretty darn motivating.

Actually, the 18 month window starts at the end of the month you take the exam.

    FAR - 79 - 07/2012
    AUD - 65, 78 - 11/2012
    BEC - 76 - 11/2012
    REG - 78 - 01/2013
    ETH - 98 - 01/2013

    Material: Wiley books

I have recently learned it's up to the state board. My state, it starts ticking the day you sit.

California- “Credit Status: If you receive a passing score, 75 or higher, on a CPA Exam section, you will receive and retain credit for each section passed for an 18-month period from the test date.”

Whats awesome and not awesome for me is that, because i'm a provisional candidate in my state (meaning I'll fulfill the requirements within 120 days after sitting for my first exam) They won't release any of my scores until I send in my final transcript. Sooooooooo that means,

I won't know my scores until May anyway!!!! I guess it is good because I can just focus on each exam.

I am plugging away for Audit while waiting for BEC sore. Just seems normal to me to pick up a adn study for the next one.

I know it definitely is cool that they allow provisional candidates.

I already completed all the requirements, just waiting for the conferral at the end of this semester.

I'm just gonna hope I pass them all the first time through! 😀
