Are Sims Worth Studying For?

I am wondering, I am doing some SIMS, but from I remember from the first time I got a 74 on Audit, the only benefit I really got was knowing what the format of the SIMS were. I did Becker the first time and absolutely none of the SIMS I did in Becker were even close than what was on the exam as far as content goes.

Is it worth it to spend time hoping you get a similar SIM on the exam, or is it best to run through a few SIMS and get a feel for how they work and continue to just focus on shoring up weak areas.

    What say you guys?

It's a waste of time. You will never see a similar SIM on the actual exam. Once you know how they look, don't even bother doing any practice ones (unless you think it will help understand the material better).

    Aud 4/2/11 - 86
    Far 5/27/11 - 83
    Bec 7/1/11 - 82
    Reg 8/13/11 - 86! It's over!!!!

Great. Thanks guys. I was going to do this anyways, but I wanted to make sure before proceeding. I am in my final review!

Wish me luck! Take the exam August 27th, convenienlty right before the window closes.

I actually find that I am not nervous at all. I was the first time I took it, but now I am kinda like “it is what it is”. I either know it or I don't and no sense in stressing myself out on it.

Also, this time, I am NOT going back through the testlets on one's I wasn't 100% on. I think I screwed myself last time thinking myself right out of the correct answer.

Killaking, but is the time spent HOPING for that worth it as opposed to nail down weaknesses? I don't think so.

That's pretty lucky though. I am convinced that half of passing the CPA exam is getting a good testlet.

I practice as many sims as I have time for. No, you won't see any exactly like the ones in the review but I have had some very similar.

Sometimes a sim can make you think about a topic in various ways. It is more efficient to work a sim than to try to find 5 or 6 multiple choice questions that are scattered throughout the review.

I would run through the sims once or twice, like Allyson said they help you think about topics in various ways and that can be very helpful. I would recommend spending ample time on the research questions though. Knowing the way around the research tab and having that feeling of “this is DEFINITELY correct” is critical as far as I'm concerned.

    REG: 85
    AUD: 74, 85
    FAR: 74 (sigh)
BEC: 80 (don't even ask me how)

When I say C-P you say 'Ayyyyy show me the money'
