AnonymousInactive@keeptrying- I live in TX and I was able to take classes at a community college to fulfill the requirements. There is actually a CPA program at one of the DCCCD.

kandisjoyParticipant@Ontothenextone – Thanks. That's a bummer, but at least it gives me more time to study. Ahhh REG, how I loathe you!

LauraParticipant@destinedcpa—was it for the accounting requirements and business because i know they have those programs for that specifically. A friend of mine was told he wasn't able to take other courses at the community college to fulfill the requirements…hmm I wonder if he just talked to the wrong person. I told him to send his application of intent and they will let him know what he lacks…

kb24ParticipantKandisjoy – happy for you that you got AUD out of way, but so sorry about REG. You have a great attitude, though, and I'll be rooting for you next test window. Think the score release will be like this one :(. They're not promising any improvement until last quarter.
Yankeeaccountant – don't know how tx format differs from NASBA, but on the test status summary, it lists the score and a few lines lower it has the word “view”. When I clicked on that, I saw my performance report.

MeganParticipantI am in Texas and my extra classes at a community college did not count in August of 2009. I called them and they said that it had changed and mine didn't count. The Accounting department head at my university even got on the phone for me and got the same answer. That was a major bummer.

LauraParticipant@Megan–that's what I thought and luckily I got qualified under the 2003 Act.
This is directly from the Texas Board website:
“Complete additional semester hours or quarter hour equivalents of upper level courses that enhance professional skills and competence, beyond the accounting hours required for a baccalaureate degree in accounting, from a university that is recognized by the Board. The hours required for a baccalaureate degree plus the additional hours must equal or exceed 150 semester hours. The coursework should be in established courses offered through colleges within the university, such as architecture, business administration, communications, engineering, fine arts, liberal arts, science, or another established discipline.”

mla1169ParticipantKeeptrying, I am sure you would rather not be the messenger, but you really DO have a very important message for everyone whether its the CPA exam, or any other challenge in life. I do hope someday you publish your journey to get to CPA. People need to know that success doesn't mean getting everything the first time you try.
As for the 150 hour requirement, same in MA, I can't even fathom having 150 hours without a masters. Actually I am up to 156 hours as of today and could walk away from school (a girl can dream, right?) but still have a class and a half to my masters. This class will be over in August and then I have one more that starts in September. Its going to be very weird since I've been in school straight through since June of 2003 (my kids were 10 and 3 then!) and I feel like Ive missed their entire childhood….

LauraParticipant@mla1169–Thank you and I've considered actually sitting down and writing it all down. The trials, the heartache, the success, the courage to keep going, dealing with the feelings of having a husband who passed on the first try….maybe I will one day write it all down…in the meantime this damn exam needs to quit eating up my time and energy!

AnonymousInactiveI know at U of H, there were a lot of past stories from former students who took classes at community college. They found out AFTER the fact that they did not count. MAYBE there is an expection to the rule. I would definately find out directly from the Texas Board before taking any courses. I had to enter the CAP program at U of H to get my remaining 16 hours.
