Anyone here wish they could retake a passed section just to get a higher score?

Ok, some of you may think this thread is crazy, but believe it or not, I’ve met a couple of people that were disappointed with their score on a CPA section even though it was passing. One person told me he was disappointed that he didn’t get higher than an 80. And another guy I know (who was a straight A student in college) wanted to hit the 90s, but didn’t.

So, I’m wondering…. Does anyone here wish they could retake a passed section just to get a higher score for bragging purposes?

I'll admit that I'm a total overachiever and I had hoped to score in the 90s but there is no way I would consider retaking the exams just for that purpose. Passing on first attempt is enough bragging rights for me – though I don't brag about it. With my luck, I'd probably score lower on the second try and I'd rather not take that risk.

If I ever answer yes to this question, everyone will know that I have been smoking something really, really, really bad, and I've lost my mind! The only number that counts is a license number! Ha Ha

I have to admit, the fact that I was soooo close to scoring a 90 in FAR does make me say, “Darn! I wish I got a 90!” But nevertheless, I'll take it. FAR is only getting worse, so I don't think I'll ever score that high again on that section.

If the scores are not posted on the license, passing is all that I require. I study to get a 99, so I can get at least a 75.

While I do wish my AUD score (76) was more in line with my other sections (85, 86, 87), I can definitely say I am content with never taking any of these exams again.

only for people who want to teach CPA prep courses for living, maybe. Otherwise, they need a life. Like Porschify said, I study like I am aiming for 100 so that I can land a 75.

    No!

Can you even do that? I've always wondered if someone who's already passed the CPA tests can re-sit for them

You know what else I wonder? What if you had to re-take all CPA exam section say, every 3 years…would you guys still want to be CPA's. I wouldn't.

If anyone actually did a retake for a better passing score I'd say that's kind of sad. As with anything that takes up a considerable amount of personal time, I think we all ask ourselves – be it directly or indirectly – do the benefits outweigh the costs? The costs of the CPA exam are the financial fees, and most importantly, time given up spent with family and friends. If not family and friends, you surely could devote the time studying for a retake by working on something more value added like putting in extra time at work or studying towards another professional certification.

My opinion, if you value roughly 150 hours of study time for a retake over that time hanging out with your friends or family… Well, enough said. I can't imagine the value added of a 90 over a 79 is going to advance your career considerably. My boss would not be happy if I stopped working at 4pm to study for a retake. He gives me crap for studying for my first crack at the exam (not really but he tells me to suck it up all the time).

Well said, porschify. In 2011 & beginning of 2012, I always studied to get a 99 so I can get a 75. People always asked me, “Why are you stressing yourself out to get a 99 when all you need is a 75?” I always had a hard time putting my answers into the proper words, but what you said is EXACTLY why I studied with that mindset.

If you were to retake a passed section just to get a higher score the AICPA would probably give you failing score regardless of how well you do just for being CRAZY!
