This is probably more a question for the state board liaison but I figured I’d put it out here too:

So I just received notice that I have been found eligible to sit for the CPA exam and my NTS will be e-mailed to me in the next 2-3 business days (yay!). I also just found out from my lawyer that I have my final hearing (again) for my divorce scheduled. Divorce on August 10 and hopefully FAR on August 23. I’m going back to my maiden name and am a bit concerned about the timing of it all. I know my ID and NTS have to match exactly but…. if everything hasn’t all been completely processed as far as the name change goes…. Can I bring supporting documentation to show the name change?

    FAR - 76
    BEC - 69, 75
    AUD - 74, 76
    REG - 67, rematch October 2012

I haven't had a problem with an NTS name vs. ID but I did have an issue when I took one part of the EA. There is no NTS for that exam, but I did have to show my license which didn't match my SSN card. When I changed to my married name, the dept. of trans. sent me an updated temporary piece of paper showing my married name, however, not technically a new license. Prometric wouldn't let me test unless I had an updated PLASTIC license as opposed to the paper. I had to rush to the DMV that morning and wait in line for 1 1/2 hours and then hop over to the picture line for another hour…that was fun.

Finally was able to take my exam later that day….luckily there was a seat open.

I know this reply doesn't help much, but just wanted to let you know my experience and how unpleasant Prometric can be! But….we knew that already.

I would suggest just using your married name to sit for the tests you have scheduled under this NTS. It will just be easier dealing with prometric with a drivers license that matches your NTS. In the meantime, get all of your ducks in a row with your name change, new license, etc. before you submit an application for your next NTS with your maiden name.
