Advice needed about a job….

Hey guys, I need a little advice. Here is my background: In December 2009, I had a Staff Accountant II position, which I resigned from to devote all my time to study for the CPA exam. As of May 2009, I have passed the full exam. I have applied to many jobs and had several interviews. The only job offer I currently have is a Junior Accountant position. And I am not in a financially strapped position right now.

What would you do in this situation? Would it look bad on a resume to go from a Staff Accounting II position to a Junior Accountant position? The pay would be about $6,000 less than what I was making before- and I have a MBA and now the CPA exam passed. It would be nice to have a job and start working, but I would just like some advice from some accounting peers. Thank you for your advice.

Titles don't mean much. Look at what career path the company has to offer. For example in a small company you might get a title and lots of exposure but very little chance of moving up if there may only be a handful of positions available in the company. If it is a large Fortune 500 company with many opportunities for different career apaths, mentors, training, marketable skills that would make you more desirable in the future, etc. That would weigh in much more to me than $6k and a title.

    Good luck with the choice.

Thanks, that is good advice. Although, I don't want to reveal the company name, it is a smaller company. It seems to be a good company to work for and it seems fairly low stress compared to my previous position. I am seriously considering the job. Worst case scenario, in a year I can look for something else if it doesn't seem to offer much opportunity for advancement.
