As Im fighting for not retaking the Audit again, I contacted both NASBA and California Board of Accountancy this morning to see whether I qualify for a 24-month credit extension.
Instead of writing down my situation in details, I think it will be sufficient to copy/paste the email I have sent this morning for you guys to read. I’m waiting for a reply and honestly not too optimistic but who knows. Also, I thought to start this thread to collect experiences and exchange info and updates with my fellows from CA. So please list your experiences and hopefully, we can find a way to effectively get our voices heard.
As a backup plan, I am studying for the AUD and will schedule a retake if I get a negative reply, and I encourage you to do the same.
Me writing to CA board:
A request for credit extension
To: pbowers@cba.ca.gov
Hello,I’m writing this today to request a credit extension for my expired Audit section. The details are as follows:
1-My Audit exam expiration date was 05/25/2017, and I accordingly planned to take my REG exam ( application number xxx ) on the 05/23/2017.
2-Two days before my scheduled date for the REG exam, there was an unexpected death in my family.
3-I had to reschedule my REG exam date to 05/31/2017 to regain some strength and refocus on my exam.
4-I received my REG passing score on 08/17/2017. The REG was my last exam that I needed to pass to get my CPA.
Based on the circumstances mentioned above, I was wondering if my case qualifies for a credit extension based on the facts that:
a-I lost a close family member.
b-I was affected by the waiting period due to the changes in the CPA exam that took place in April 2017.
I have great expectations the board will allow me to benefit from the 24 month extension period that can be given on a case by case basis. So, please let me know whether I qualify and if there are any extra steps I need to take to complete the process.Best,
