As Im fighting for not retaking the Audit again, I contacted both NASBA and California Board of Accountancy this morning to see whether I qualify for a 24-month credit extension.

Instead of writing down my situation in details, I think it will be sufficient to copy/paste the email I have sent this morning for you guys to read. I’m waiting for a reply and honestly not too optimistic but who knows. Also, I thought to start this thread to collect experiences and exchange info and updates with my fellows from CA. So please list your experiences and hopefully, we can find a way to effectively get our voices heard.

As a backup plan, I am studying for the AUD and will schedule a retake if I get a negative reply, and I encourage you to do the same.

    Me writing to CA board:

    A request for credit extension
    To: pbowers@cba.ca.gov
    Hello,

I’m writing this today to request a credit extension for my expired Audit section. The details are as follows:
1-My Audit exam expiration date was 05/25/2017, and I accordingly planned to take my REG exam ( application number xxx ) on the 05/23/2017.
2-Two days before my scheduled date for the REG exam, there was an unexpected death in my family.
3-I had to reschedule my REG exam date to 05/31/2017 to regain some strength and refocus on my exam.
4-I received my REG passing score on 08/17/2017. The REG was my last exam that I needed to pass to get my CPA.
Based on the circumstances mentioned above, I was wondering if my case qualifies for a credit extension based on the facts that:
a-I lost a close family member.
b-I was affected by the waiting period due to the changes in the CPA exam that took place in April 2017.
I have great expectations the board will allow me to benefit from the 24 month extension period that can be given on a case by case basis. So, please let me know whether I qualify and if there are any extra steps I need to take to complete the process.

    Best,

Sorry to hear of your tragedy. You don't need 24 months…..I think you should be fine, you may need to forward copy of death certificate. See below what another Forum poster received from CA:

“Extension Requests will be considered on a case by case basis per management. The CBA will only consider extensions requests based upon your inability to test because of any of the following extraordinary circumstances:

    (1) Death of an immediate family member. Documentation, such as a copy of the death certificate, must be submitted.

    (2) Catastrophic illness, contagious disease, or major traumatic injury to the candidate or immediate family member (spouse, child or parent). Submit an original letter on letterhead from the physician, which includes the date(s), nature of the illness, and the physician's signature.

    (3) Natural disaster (earthquake, flood, fire, etc.).

    (4) Non-issuance of visa for travel to the U.S. Documentation, such as an official letter from the U.S. Embassy or a copy of the passport indicating a visa was requested, must be submitted.

    (5) Other good cause.”

@taxkeep.. Thank you. I hope they think the same and grant me an official permission on the grounds of the above clause.

To everyone .. I encourage you to email the person above and call NASBA. I wasnt happy with the operator I was talking to on the phone when I called CA Board.
