2nd time taking FAR this year. First time studied hard and got 61. Studied my butt off the second time only to do better by 8 points REALLY?!?!?!??!?

Gearing up for AUD – I take the exam end of July. It’s so hard to focus while being depressed about FAR. Thinking about putting my 7 month old baby in daycare one or two days a week so I can get a couple hrs of peace and quiet to study. Hope it’s worth it. I’m running on hardly any sleep each day and my study sessions feel inefficient due to my tired brain. WHAT IS IT GOING TO TAKE?!?!??!? Any stay at home mom’s out there studying for the exams? If so, what is your schedule like –how do you get in good study time?

I use Gleim, maybe I should have purchased Yaeger like Jeff suggested.

    Wish this poor bird luck.

Sorry to hear that, Molly. I would check out Yaeger or Roger – choose the course whose demo you like the best for FAR.

    Molly,

I am sorry. That sucks. We have all been there. It took me 3 times to pass for FAR and BEC. I was miserable. I am not working–so I am at home, but my babies, well, not so much. I have one in college and one in high school. Both towering around 6 foot 2. I don't have the same experience as you, but we do have something in common: being at home and studying. It is hard. It seems (in theory) like it would be such a bonus, but being home is hard because it is hard to separate the time to study and the time to do the other things that you are responsible for and take care of your baby.

One thing that I did different this time around was to read the book–the whole book. And take notes. I had never done this before, and for me, it really helped to keep things in my head. I also carried around my notecards -everywhere. I have posted before that the guys at Jiffy Lube think I am a nut job because of this.

I do wish you tons of luck. And I also pat you on the back. I don't think I could have tried this when the kids were young–I admire your tenacity. Keep at it. You will get there.

Best of luck on Audit. Audit is so much memorization: rinse and repeat baby!!!!

    Molly,

I'm right there with ya! — I failed FAR twice this year (70 on this last one!) and just lost my credit for BEC. Try to make a study calendar — only have to study a few hours each day – if you stick to it. Good Luck!

    BEC - PASSED/LOST CREDIT - retake 2/13/12
    REG - PASSED
    AUD - PASSED
    FAR - PASSED

Molly: I am so sorry you didn't pass again šŸ™

One thing I am sure you have realized is that you are not alone…many others struggle too, but eventually you will pass…

I was reading a lot of posts recently on failing the exam and one thing that caught my attention was that after you fail a section, take a step back and really evaluate your study strategy…it obviously isn't working. Then get lots of ideas from others and take a new approach that fits your life and study preferences, but isn't ā€œmore of the sameā€ or you may end up with scores that are ā€œmore of the sameā€. I hope that you find a way that works for you and enables you to pass…

I can only say from my own experience, I make a study plan for each section and really try to stick with it…I take a spreadsheet and fill in times each day I plan to devote to studying and a total hours goal. I build in at least 30 hours of cushion over my goal so I don't freak out if I am a little (or a lot) off track! I certainly have struggled to stay motivated, but having the plan helps me get back on track…

I realy truly wish you the best…

    BEC: 79 - April 2011
    FAR: 78 - May 2011
    AUD: 81 - May 2012
    REG: 79 - October 2012
    Ethics: Passed - March 2013
    I am finally DONE!

Very sorry to hear that. I only recently passed FAR with a 75 exactly, and I felt terrible leaving the exam so I am honestly shocked I passed.

My advice? Use Yaeger, it hasn't failed me yet. Do everything they say and do the questions. My problem this time was not focusing on enough theory, and notecards and memorization also is something to look at equally with the MC and the sims.

Like you, I felt terrible and didn't want to focus on AUD. It took me two weeks to mentally get remotivated to buckle down again. I'm not a stay at home mom, but I took two months for FAR and studied each night after work for three hours and on the weekends. You have to make time to study and it sucks but if you need a mental health day (sparingly take these), take them. If you study too hard for too long without a break, it will hurt you more than help.

Thanks for all the advice and encouragement. It does make me feel better. I think you guys are right in that I need to revamp my approach and try something different. Yaeger seems to be the favorable study guide on this website. I think I'll give it whirl for my 3rd approach at making FAR my b*tch.

This test has been so hard on my family and our bank account! But I know it will be worth it in the end.

Right now, I'm focusing on MC for auditing. I have such a hard time with understanding the wording in some of the Q's.

@ Alexisinytown: Good Job passing FAR! I'm glad to hear that it is in fact a passable test! Your hard work paid off! i hope you are celebrating drinking a mai-tai right now šŸ™‚

keep at it, you will passss. you ONLY need a 75. i know it sucks that you have to take it again but keep going keep going. i got a 68 on REG the 1x.

it can take a long long time to study for FAR. it might even help to study hard for FAR for at least few months and not take it for a window until you feel as though you're super prepared and ready to blow it to smitherines ready.

    done
