    Hi,

I failed REG for a 3rd time. The first time was a 42, then a 57, then a 72. The 72 hurts the most. I feel like no matter how much studying I do, I keep failing. I’m almost ready to quit all together. I hate the CPA at this point. Not matter what I do, I keep failing, and now Im just in this cycle of hurt, disappointment, and overall shame. I’m thinking of quitting my job and trying out a new career that doesn’t involve it. I lose my BEC score in Nov and I have yet to take FAR because I keep failing REG.

Any encouraging words to this little loser?

A – you are not a loser. But I am RIGHT there with you and feel as equally as defeated since I just found out I failed AUD for the 3rd time.

It took me 4 times to pass REG. I just kept grinding. I lost my BEC credit in the process – which is a score I'm still waiting on.

I lost my FAR credit in August and I'm also currently unsure if I want to continue because I started in May 2016. I find this entire process embarrassing because so many people know I'm on this journey. I've never not gotten a job or a raise because I don't have my CPA so I'm having a hard time finding motivation to continue. At this point I feel like it would be just so I could call myself a CPA.

I have an MBA – mostly because at the time I felt I didn't want to do accounting for the rest of my life. I haven't considered a career shift because I make better money in accounting than I would in a different field.

I use Becker – which is supposedly the highest pass rate but I still can't hack it apparently. I passed a practice exam before I took AUD but still can't pull it together for the real thing I guess. But it is frustrating that the exam is basically curved to control the pass rate. I don't really think the fact that I've gotten a 74 twice means that I don't have the knowledge. And some CPAs I know, I wouldn't trust to balance my checkbook so I think part of it is how good you are at taking a test – and I learned in my undergrad I'm terrible at it.

Unfortunately, no real words of advice from me because I'm in the same boat. Just know you're not alone 🙁

The only encouragement I can give is the encouragement I need to hear which is this.. These tests do not determine your intelligence, your potential, and especially your value as a person. I shame myself and tell myself how worthless I am for all kinds of reasons and it has never helped me. I don't think you're a loser because of failing for a 3rd time, I think you're persistent and resilient for continuing to stick with this.

I'd suggest powering through.. we're in the mud now, but when we make it through it will all have been worth it. You've passed AUD and BEC already, you definitely have what it takes! I'd also suggest finding someone you can have a good cry with, I definitely need that when I feel absolutely defeated.

Think of it this way, the way your scores are trending you will pass next time. Don't give up. You will get there. Turn that 72 into motivation towards the retake. Take it in Q3 with FAR. You will still be able to take another exam or two in Q4 before your expiration. You got time!! Focus on those multiple choice test banks. Read all of the answers, even the incorrect ones, and understand why they arent correct. I got this advice while studying and it helped me the most.

@jdub and @stuckbelow60, don't give up! You passed other parts so you can definitely do this. You are almost there! Try another test bank and jump right back in.

You are not a loser! This journey has been so difficult for all of us. Allow yourself the time to process it, be sad, but then get right back up. Im on my 3rd round of REG, but im too chicken to check my score. I will do it tonight. Good luck!

Don't give up! As you can see from my signature, I took FAR a lot before I finally passed it. I actually failed AUD twice as well. You're almost there. You probably know at this point what your weak spots are. Work on those hard but test yourself on everything else as well. You can do it

So many people understand exactly what you are feeling so you are not alone! I have been going at this for 2 years. BEC-1 try Reg-2 tries FAR-3 tries Audit-4 tries. I want to add that I did good on audit every time. So it really frustrated me I couldn't pass. I found out this morning I am FINALLY done with the CPA. I seriously thought about quitting in January. Keep faith and keep pushing. I will definitely keep you in my prayers! Trust me, when you get that last score you need, you realize all of this is worth it.

@ OP don't get down on yourself, that's what they are counting on. Finally passed all 4 sections and I have been testing since 10/13. It took 6 attempts each for REG and FAR, 3 attempts for AUD, 1 attempt for BEC. Some people breeze through these for others like me it seems to be an endless test of endurance. Stay the course!
