    Sorry for the long post but I have to get this off my chest! I have passed 3 parts of this thing. I passed BEC 1/11/2017 and I passed AUD on 3/4/2017. I passed REG in the second quarter of last year (you know, the one with the insanely long waiting period for our scores.)

    I am having trouble with FAR, I think most of it is bc I am so burnt out it is hard to retain anything anymore. I am scheduled to take it on Feb 10th. First attempt was 66, second attempt was 72 (but I was so sick coughing my head off during the exam).

    I wanted to get on here to gripe about the score releases for this year because you guys are the only ones that understand. I am obviously hoping it wont matter bc I am going to pass on 2/10, but if I don’t, and have to keep taking it, I probably get screwed out of my last testing window which means I would lose BEC and AUD since I passed them both in the same quarter. I wont get my second quarter score release until 6/29 because of the newest hold and I will have to get an NTS as well as schedule it by 7/10… They typically don’t move fast enough for that to happen… If they had a normal release I would be able to take it early 2nd Qtr and if I failed, I would have time to get another NTS and schedule it between 7/1 and 7/10.

    My plan is to pass this time, but if I don’t, I will take it as late as I can in 2nd Qtr so I can get as much study time in, then take it, then keep studying in case I can actually sit in time for my last shot. I don’t think I can mentally handle going back to being only 25% done…

    The test is already bad enough, but when they keep messing with the score release dates, it feels impossible. I have had the 10 week score release push back of 2nd quarter 2017, the long release date of 3rd Qtr 2017, they canceled my release date of this quarter (2/23 and pushed it to 3/8), now only 1 release date per quarter for the rest of the year. It is beyond ridiculous.

    I did all of the GLEIM SIMs that pertain to the “analysis” topics as illustrated in the AICPA REG blueprints in the days leading up to the test. I did them once, initially after studying the material without any notes. Then if I scored lower than 75 on any chapter of SIMs, I took notes on what I was getting wrong and redid it again until I got a 75 or higher.

    If you look at the blueprints and the weighing of the topics, you can be most efficient at passing the REG exam if you focus on tax. You can be tested on individual tax and entity tax both in a MCQ or a SIM. People usually can grasp individual tax because its relevant to their lives. Entity taxation is harder to grasp especially when you try to learn all the various basis rules. I'd recommend writing out and memorizing the various gift tax rules, entity taxation basis rules, etc.

    My best advice is take whatever study system you have and use the % weighing in the blueprints to focus your studying. I am not saying to avoid business law because you can easily win MCQ points there, but don't spend all your time in it if you don't know tax first.

    MCQ = test your yourself on everything (do 80-100 MCQ everyday in the two weeks leading out to the exam and look at your weak areas)

    SIMs = focus on individual tax and entity tax + use AICPA blueprints to see if you can actually do every “analysis” topic (do these in the 2 weeks leading up to the exam and look at your weak areas)

    I haven't received my score yet for REG yet but my advice comes from failing FAR 3X. On the 4th attempt, I finally learned to study what is going to be highly testable. A lot of people will just tell you to just commit to whatever study system you purchased and you will pass. They will all help you pass but I think using the blueprints like a rubric to judge yourself is the way to maximize your chances. For example Becker says that AMT is highly testable. They go through so much detail to explain individual and corporate AMT. But it doesn't make sense to me based on the blueprints and what it says.

    BEC = 72 (6/08/16)
    FAR = ?
    REG = ?
    AUD = ?

    @lentilcounter thanks! This is what I was kind of already doing per another one of posts. Hearing it again from the source helps. I think with my recent history I've been a little to frantic in the last and just need to trust the process and relax. Hope to be celebrating with you!!!

    Thanks for sharing @Wanna_B_TXCPA2014. I'm waiting to get my FAR score on 2/23 and I need to re-take REG by 3/10. If I do not pass both, with this score hold, I have no opportunity to use Q2 to try again, and will loose AUD on 6/9 and BEC on 8/29 (I passed both of them right away with Ninja, but obviously have no desire to start over and invest even more money).
    I just now realized that I lost Q2 and was on the verge of breaking down – thanks for your post of encouragement of your similar situation.

    FAR that I'm waiting on was my 3rd attempt (previous attempts were only with Ninja prep with scores: 73, 73). For the third attempt I added Surgent and my trending and average on both Surgent and Ninja were 63% going into the exam. Statistically, based on what people have reported in Actual vs Trending, there is a high chance of passing if your FAR trending is in the 60s. But then there is REG. Bleh…

    REG will be my 4th attempt (previous were only Ninja prep with scores: 72 (Jan 17), 70 (May 17), 69 (Dec 17)). Yup, that is the opposite direction that the scores should be going, so it's very hard to believe that I will all of a sudden be able to pull something off in the shortest month of the year that I could not do in the last 12 months. I'm adding Surgent also, but there is just not enough time now…. I was planning to take one in this window as a rehearsal for Surgent and was betting on Q2 to pass. On top of which I just started a new job that demands time committment and that is just breaking me down.

    It is what it is. Take a breath, go for a run, drink a scotch, cry into the pillow…. then keep on going. Again.
    “Game over. Try again?”
    “Hell, yes! This is far from over!”.

    Yes, thanks, I know that…. Not really the point for my post that I typed “I'm” instead of “I was” when I clearly reference the score hold issue.

    😉 I'll take that, @Bourne. And agree that was uncalled for on my part. Thanks for your kindness. No ill will here at all. I felt I was among friends to vent, and did not take well seeing a typo correction. It appears that continuos failures are escalating my sensitivity towards mistakes and self-defensive lashing out tendencies are unchecked. The worst parts of personality are coming out in stress. I realize it was not meant to be anything negative, and apologize for a my not-well-adjusted reaction.
    Good luck to you as well next week and next month.

    I thought Amor was asking a question, so I answered. I haven't read any of the previous posts. However, the stress from these exams gets the best of us. Good luck to you as well.

    We do not know with certainty that scores won’t be released 2/23.

    I’m holding out hope because the emails specifically say that you won’t be able to make payments or get your nts resent to you, but it doesn’t say anything about scores.

    So my co-worker told me that you can actually apply for another NTS while waiting for your score. Basically after your NTS gets approved, you can then wait to see if you passed your test and if not you can immediately choose which tests you want to take, (in your case, FAR) pay for it and wait around 2 days to get fully processed. Open spots always open up in the last minute, so I'm sure you could take it during that period. If you did pass, you would be out $50 of the NTS fee, but small price to pay for extra security in my opinion! I do hope that it doesn't come to this and you pass this time around in February, best of luck!

    Yes we do know for certainty that the score release on feb 23 is no longer active. I replied to the email NASBA sent regarding the system being down and asked why they would implement this in the middle of the testing period as it makes it a huge inconvenience for the feb 23 score release cancellation, this was their response:

    “It wouldn't matter when the migration occurred, it would just affect a different group of candidates. The AICPA's website shows the last wave of scores would be sent on March 23rd, so it would probably take about 72 hours to process all the scores that come in for that wave which means all the scores would be by the 27th (to be generous.) If the migration started then, that would mean all the candidates that passed the exam would have to wait an additional month before their scores are sent to their state board of accountancy. I don't think there is ever the “perfect” time that would ever, never affect a group of candidates.”

    Sorry to rain on your parade, but everywhere you look shows the date no longer a score release date.
