    Hi,

I am MBA Finance from India and i am planning to do CPA course from california state. I am an average student. I have few queries regarding the whole curriculum and would appreciate if some one can help me.

    1. How many months to complete the 4 papers

    2. Is self study sufficient or do I need to join some institute? If yes, which one?

    3. Where and how can I get the study materials?

    Thanks in advance.

    Regards,

    Meenakshi

    Hi Meenakshi!

You are looking at about 8 months for the 4 sections. You may finish faster faster or slower depending upon various factors, mainly how much of a priority you can make it. You can take the 4 sections in any pattern you like, but you do need to finish all 4 in a 18 month window. There are changes coming to the exam in 2011, so you would be better off taking certain sections first in 2010.

You do not need to go to a class or join an institute, both Becker as well as Yaeger Review Courses have the self study package options, wherein you can listen to the lectures at home, after which you do the homework etc. Also, since your degree is from India, you need to send your transcripts to an evaluation agency, so that they make the determination that you are eligible to take the exam.

    Hope this helps!

    Hi Anagha,

Thanks for the information. which sections should i finish first i mean if pattern is changing in 2011 which all sections should be taken first and till December is the sufficient time to study for these sections. I am really very keen to go for a CPA course but i heard from some people its very tough and not possible to complete for an average student thats why i am not able to take decision whether i should go for it or not. Thats why i am asking these question again and again whether its possible for an average student to sit for these exams.

And do lemme know which sections should i take first.

    Thanks

I don't think the issue of “average” applies to the passing the CPA exam- it's a content driven exam- if you put in the effort and use good materials, you'll pass. Now depending upon your studying ability, it can take you more or less time to study. For instance, I studied BEC for 6 weeks- and I know people who studied for 4, and passed. Same for AUD.

I think BEC and FAR are better done in 2010. Save REG for the last, that's changing the least.

Thanks for your inputs and i appreciate.

I am planning to evaluate my degrees, i had completed my MBA in 2006 and then start working, but last one year i am not working does it affect the evaluation criteria? and you have any idea which evaluation institute is good in southern california?

    Thanks again

    Go to this link

    https://www.dca.ca.gov/cba/

It will tell you the steps you need to take to apply.

    – to sit for the exam there are a accounting hours and an ethics class you have to complete

    – employment is not a condition to sit for the exam – once you have passed there will be work experience requirements

Not sure how long the process takes to get approved to take the exam

The sooner you submit your information the better

    Hi Meenakshi,

It will be better if you apply through Colarado Board of Accounting , most of the Indian students register through Colarado. I believe with your Bachelors and MBA , you will be able to qualify without needing ny additional ccounting hours.

Since you mentioned the word average student few times I would suggest Yaegar Homestudy course ( its teaching course) and Phil, Cindy and Gary does a very good job in all subjects plus its very economical

    BEC - 11/07/09 - 79 AUD - 11/28/09 - 75 FAR - 01/18/10 - 86 REG - 02/26/10 - 74, 5/31/2010 - 90 finally done!
