    Hello.

I am an international student based outside the US and would love to travel to write the CPA exam in the US.

However, i studied Engineering in University but i have 6 years of audit experience with a Big Four firm. I am also a Chartered Accountant (Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria, ICAN) and i am an award winner at the exams.

What chances do I have in sitting for the CPA exams despite my non-US/non-Accounting background?

    Many thanks

Try Alaska or New York. I think you can be a NY CPA with only experience, but Idk about residency requirements.

    Florida CPA!
    Took final exam 2/25/15.
    Sent in Application 3/12/15.
    Issued License 3/20/15.
Used CPA Excel solely for all exams.

I am an International too from the same country because I am also a member of ICAN and have my CPA license, though I reside in the United states. It is very doable, however the major challenge you may have is meeting the required credit hours in accounting. You said your first degree is in engineering, which implies you do not have accounting classes under your belt. Whichever state you want to register to write the exam, you will be required to meet the accounting credit hours(differs among the states) and unfortunately ICAN is not acceptable by almost all states( Based on my research and my experience). What you can do is to register for some accounting classes from an accredited university in Nigeria to take intermediate and advance level accounting classes. Almost all the states accept International undergraduate or masters classes, though it has to be evaluated. But that is a cheaper route to meet the credit requirements without breaking the bank to pay for the classes in the US considering travel cost and other logistics. You may request for my email address from Jeff if you need more clarification, he advised against sharing our email address on the forum. Hope this helps.
