    Hi team,

Hope to have some valuable suggestions from you guys.

I have recently received a letter from Colorado State board stating that my application for CPA license has been denied due to the fact that my country CPA certification was not recognized by the Board as earning me enough hours to get me past over 120 hours in order to become a CPA.

Interesting point to note here is that the same board has accepted my foreign credential evaluation which stated that my education earned me 121 credit hours and I was deemed eligible to take the papers. After clearing the papers and having my 3 years experience verified by a practicing CPA, I am now being informed that the board does not recognize my country’s CA as earning any credit hours for me.

What do you think would be the best way to proceed in this situation as I am short of time since the Board is increasing their education requirements to 150 hours from July 1 and they have unnecessarily being delaying my application for the last 3 months only to inform me in the end of the denial of my request.

Hope to have some valuable responses from this forum to determine the appropriate course of future action.

    Thanks

How many hours short are you? There's a chance – albeit slim – that you could get a couple credits through self-paced study options before July 1, so if you were, say, 2 credits short, it'd be worth a shot…if it's more than that, then it may be worth a call or letter politely and respectfully expressing that you had previously been evaluated for 121 credits (perhaps send a copy of that documentation) and ask if they can re-assess your situation. However, they do have the right to say “Nope”, and you'll be stuck doing 30 more credits. However, if I remember right, CO doesn't require Master's, just additional credits, so you may be able to do CLEP/DSST or simple, fun courses to fulfill the 30.

Could you do online courses that are a month long? CLEP? I guess I don't know what I would do without getting more info from your state board…..

    Hi

I have a 2 year bachelors in commerce degree(60.5hrs) + 6 year Chartered Accountant certification(60.5hours) + US GAAS course(3 hours as directed by Colorado Board to be eligible for CPA exams). However, now if they are telling me that they don't recognize my CA, then I would be short by quite a margin and I cant fulfill the rquirement by just a few courses. However, I do not understand as to why the board recognizes my 121 hrs for taking the CPA exams but after clearing all the papers and meeting their experience requirements and spending 3 hours on this process, the same Board does not recognize the same 121 hours for licensing. The issue is that i am currently based in Big 4 in Norway and its difficult for me to the US at this point in time and be heard directly, I have started communications by email and shared my evaluation with them but haven't received any reply so far.

    Its really frustrating now..

Based on that you have CA, are you from Canada?

I think you will need to work with the director on Monday (US time) to figure out options

    Hi,

No I am a Chartered Accountant from Pakistan.

I will give them a call on Monday to check who I can talk to get this resolved. However, I think there would be a slight chance to get this resolved on phone only.

But its really upsetting to get stuck after 3 years of hardwork.

    Thanks for the help guys….
