I have a Bachelor of Commerce degree from Mumbai University in India and a Chartered Accountant degree from Institute of Chartered Accountants of India. Can you please help me with the eligibility for the CPA exam.

U need to send all your diplomas to evaluation center first. ACEI for example, if you are in California. Or your can get a list of them on your state cpa website. They will send the evaluated credentials directly to the cpa board of your state. U also need to submitt an online application with the board.

Then the board will notify you about your eligibility.

P.S. I evaluated my foreign degree and took 9 classes here in United States.

Extended studies are the best, they do not require any paperwork submittion. U just enroll, pay the tution, usually 350-500 per class. Once you done, u can send the transcript to the board.

I would recommend FACS, cause i had some very bad experience with WES..however pls check out the accepted evaluation agency for state to which you are applying to..Gud Luck!

@subodh.lath, CA board do accept CA from india you will be fine with B.Com and CA but your real problem is SSN (social security number), you don't need for CPA exam but you do need for CPA license, if you don't have or can't get by the time you apply for license you can't get license,,,if ur in USA then you will be having one and you will be fine,,,,

@zombiecpa – in your post, you said you took 9 classes. I might have to take classes as well to meet CPA requirements. Can you please provide the university or institution you took classes from? Also, was it online or regular classes? Thanks for your help!!!

Hey just wanted to confirm, whether California board still accepts Indian CA's as an acceptable requirement? I have a similar profile to the OP, BCOM (H) (3 years, 2nd division) and CA. please advise whether California option is still open, also any specific evaluator who would give me 150 credits.

I am a B Com (3 years from Calcutta University – Category A with IInd Class) and a chartered accountant. I too have the same question that is, whether B Com + CA is eligible to sit for the examination from California state. Can anyone suggest any other state that recognizes Indian qualification?

I have found WES non-responsive and they do not reply to any of the emails that I sent. WES indicates that candidates with B Com from NAAC – A category university AND first division marks are good for California. So what about candidates with IInd division marks + CA? I think once a candidate is sure about the state, he/she can approach NASBA IES and pay $200 for evaluation services.

Can anyone help please?

Unless there are some specific rules for Indians that I am not aware of – no you do not need to have a SSN to get a CPA license. States like Alaska, Illinois and Kentucky do not require American citizenship nor SSN.

I have a similar profile of B.com + CA +CS from India. I first applied to the state of Illinois and got rejected because though I had about 235 hours credit, I did not have the required 3+2 hours in Accounting Research & Analysis and Professional ethics. I was given two options, either do some additional courses in the US to get the required 5 hours or apply from another state. I later applied from the state of Maine and got accepted there. As far as I know, the rules have changed and now California doesnt accept B.com + CAs any more. I would suggest, when you apply for initial evaluation of your credits, you dont select any state, but apply for undecided jurisdiction so that NASBA will suggest 3 states for which you might be eligible and then you can choose a state from there. Though this route costs 100$ extra, you still save yourself a lot of trouble from having to gamble with your selecting a state and later getting rejected and paying fee all over again.

I am residing in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia and want to do CPA. Please suggest will Maine be the choice for me as it is very confusing to understand whether an Indian CA + CS + B.Com (Honours) – Kolkata University is eligible to do CPA or not.

@sweetrakhi & ravibhagri – sorry I cant comment on you eligibility without knowing all the facts. Like I mentioned before, your best bet is to apply to NASBA for International evaluation, and if you dont mind paying the extra $100, choose undecided jurisdiction. You will be given a list of 3 states or less depending on your individual credit analysis and it will help you to proceed from there. If you choose Maine and then later get rejected, then you will have to reapply with additional fees to another jurisdiction till you find a state that accepts your qualification. If I were to do it all over again, I would go for undecided jurisdiction. Hope this helps.
