What's wrong with NJ state board of accountancy?

i sent email to NJ state board of accountancy regarding work experience requirement as I work for internal audit, not in public accounting firm. Someone replied the email with a contact number telling me to call them to ask the question. So I called them, and asked about work experience requirement. The lady who picked up the phone cut me right in the middle of question, and said that they don’t answer to specific questions. She told me to wait until NASBA sends me some notification email. I asked her approximately how long does it usually take to receive that email from NASBA. then she said she doesn’t know, telling me to just wait.

I was a little bit embarrassed, and said I wanted to get some info because I had no clue on the next step after passing all exams. She responded right back saying “I have no clue either”

Is this situation normal to other state boards of accountancy as well?

The CA board has been really nice, I have contacted them a bunch of times lately and they are helpful. Sorry you're having problems with NJ.

In Texas, it is one year experience under direct supervision of a licensed CPA and you must be doing accounting/auditing and using judgement. It does not have to be public.

I know I'm bringing back an old topic here, but the NJ board is extremely unhelpful in this process.

I am also not surprised to see that other people have been treated like trash on the phone by their staff. Every person I have had on the line from the board has been nasty and unprofessional.

I have been dealing with them for a month now. My application is “still in process”. Also, if they do not have an answer for you, their company line is … call NASBA.

I think it's a Jersey government thing. Whenever I call these quasi-government organizations such as public schools and the state board the person on the other end is very unhelpful.

I also have been having problems with the NJ state board since I first applied to sit last year. They are a nightmare to deal with.

Wow, sounds pretty rude. California has been nothing but stellar for me. Every time I had a question, they answered to their best ability. One person even congratulated me for passing the exam and reassured me that all I had to do was wait for my license # and certificate to arrive in the mail..

Our value does not come from our skills and abilities, as good as they may be; it does not come from our GPA, our job, a promotion from that job to a better job, our success on the CPA exam, or anything of the like; but our value comes from the fact that we have a Creator who loves us, cares for us, and desires to help us navigate the rough waters of this life in a way that provides security, hope, and true, everlasting joy while we anticipate the life to come, with Him.

I'm in NJ and called for a status update earlier this week. The woman recognized my name immediately and said they were just waiting for my background check to come through. Was a relatively painless phone call.
