from this statement: 46 semester hours from an accredited college in the study of accounting and related subjects, including, but not limited to business law, economics, and finance; of which at least 24 semester hours shall be in the study of accounting

I am assuming it 24 accounting hours plus 3 hours finance plus 3 hours biz law plus 16 hours economics would fulfill this requirement. Is that correct.

That sounds correct to me from the way I'm reading it. I'm not sure if you're double majoring in economics and thus would have to take all of those economics classes, but like it says, you could branch out to other subjects for some of those 16 hours if you wanted. Related subjects would probably include marketing, operations/supply chain management, risk management, actuarial science, etc. My guess would be really any business class.

You really need to check with the state board that you are applying to for the most accurate info. Every state has different requirements.

I would say your read on it is correct, but would also agree with Kricket that you should contact the state board and clarify. My state's “related subjects” was simply “business”, but I know some states are much more restrictive than that!

Thanks for your responses, I have contacted the state board.

I have another question, I did ask them, but I will also ask here. Many Accounting PhD programs require something like:

Students must take the following three courses:

STA 5207 – Applied Regression Methods

    ECO 5403 – Static Optimization

    ECO 5416 – Econometrics I

    Plus four of the following:

STA 5206 – Analysis of Variance

    STA 5440 – Introductory Probability I

STA 5507 – Applied Nonparametric Statistics

STA 5707 – Applied Multivariate Analysis

STA 5856 – Time Series and Forecasting Methods

FIN 6842 – Research Methods in Finance

    ECO 5423 – Econometrics II

ECO xxxx – Graduate Economics Elective

My question is this. If these courses count as credited hours in the accounting PhD program, do they count as graduate accounting credits

My inclination is to think they wouldn't, but I'm not sure. If they do, I have passed four of those classes and it would be great, so Im just checking if there is an outside shot.

just a quick note: In MA

If you do not have a business degree (neither undergraduate nor graduate), but complete 150 hours of college credits, then there is a one-year work experience requirement. You also must complete 30 credits of accounting at the undergrad level, including at least 3 credits in financial accounting, auditing, tax and management accounting. Also, 24 credits of undergrad business courses are required, with at least 3 credits in business law, business information systems, ethics and finance. Quantitative applications in business, organizational management, economics, and business communications can be considered business credits. Quantitative applications in business, organizational management, economics, and business communications can be considered business credits.
