Virginia Ethics Exam & Experience Requirements

Would anyone be able to tell me if the VBOA accepts the ethics exam and experience verification form before all four of the exams have been passed? I have two passed at the moment and the other two scheduled, but I’ll have a few days break between taking AUD and studying for FAR that I’d like to use to knock out the ethics exam. I also already have the experience requirement complete and my employer is willing to fill out the experience verification form whenever I need it, so I was wondering if I could complete those two requirements now and submit them to the VBOA before finishing the exams so that all that will be left for licensure is two more exam passes?

When I read their website and it said to pass all for parts before applying I just assumed you had to wait. You could always call or email them though.

One question I have is do you have to have the Virginia specific ethics course before getting a license as well?

I thought it looked that way on their site as well but I know I've seen posts on here before that have mentioned submitting other requirements early, so I wasn't sure if that was a generally accepted practice or if it's more state specific.

I do think I found the answer on there about the Virginia specific ethics course, though! I looked under the CPE section on this particular page of their site: https://www.boa.virginia.gov/CPALicense/InitialLicense.shtml. From what I can tell, you don't need to have the Virginia specific ethics course completed for your initial license if you apply for your license during the same calendar year that you passed the exam. So if you finish the exam in 2014 and apply for your license in 2014, you won't need to have that course completed for this year. But if you pass the exam in 2014 and apply for your license in 2015, you would need the course for the initial license. It's a bit confusing, really.

Ok that makes more sense. I'm a TN candidate so I'm not even doing my testing through them but I'm going to transfer my scores when I'm done. It would be great if we could get started on the other stuff in the mean time.

Yes, I'd certainly like to. I'm going to send an email over to them just so I have confirmation one way or the other and then I'll post what I find out on here.

According to Krystal at the VBOA, no other requirements for licensure should be submitted prior to passing all of the exam sections, so that answers that question. However, she said just to hold onto them until then, so I do think that means the requirements can be completed early, just not submitted. That works for me!

Yep, that sounds good. The AICPA ethics is $156 though.

I submitted my ethics early with no problems but submitted experience after passing all 4

For licensure, You also have to sign and submit something saying you understand the cpe requirements and if you have any misdameanor/felony record you have to submit an explanation.

@nolifecpa, that's good to know, thank you! Is the CPE acknowledgement paperwork something they send you once you apply for your initial license or do you know if it's on their website somewhere?
