Hi, everybody. First time poster here!

I just filed my initial application with the VA Board of Accountancy to sit for the exam. I am hoping that I will be able to sit for my first section during the first window of 2012 (Jan-Feb) in order to coincide best with my Becker courses. My question is, typically how long does it take to hear back from the board after filing your initial application, and what is the likelihood of me being able to sit during that window?

I sent in my application to the VA BOA on 9/6/11, received my NTS 9/27/11, and sat for my first section on 10/18/11 (checked my old emails). The BOA did a great job of processing my application quickly. I would be surprised if you do not receive your NTS by the end of 2011.

I can't remember the exact timing, but it was pretty quick. I would say 2-3 weeks, maybe?

Just wondering where in VA are you all (assuming you live here and aren't just getting licensed here)? I'm near Charlottesville.

I am from Georgia, so I cannot speak specifically to your state; however, I heard a tip from someone that if you do a paper application and send everything in one envelope (payment, transcript, application) then they get through it even faster. My experience was that I received my NTS in about 1 week (credit card charge showed up online about 4 days after). I can't say whether it was because Georgia is quick or if my paper application trick worked, but it's something to try if you're hoping for a quick turnaround.

i found out last window that VA candidates can now check scores through the nasba site instead of going through the va boa site

are we able to see scores as soon as the aicpa releases to nasba?

i know in the old way the aicpa releases scores to nasba, then nasba releases to va board, then we were able to view after va board posted

@nolifecpa – I was able to receive my score for BEC through the NASBA website on the day that the AICPA released the scores to NASBA. The AICPA released the scores on the target date too.
